Man, I gotta say that 16GB is pretty useless though. I mean, I understand everyone's usage is different but my 128GB iPad mini R is over half full... 16GB is barely enough for a couple games these days. At least the discount is good on any iPad mini though!

And yet my 32gb iPad Air is barely even close to half full. Should have bought the 16GB model.

Like you said, everyone's usage is different, so it's hardly useless. :)

The funny thing is not everyone in the world is you...plenty of people will be fine with 16. I'm good with 32 myself.

And that's why I said everyone's usage is different -- my Mom is good with 32GB herself. It's just as far as numbers go 16GB is fairly small -- flash memory contiues to drop in pric rapidly and as far as tech specs go 16GB is almost the lowest on the scale of anything these days.

But fair point, many people need no more than that. My point wasn't to say my needs are what everyone else's needs are; in all actuallity I know very few people would need more than 64GB. It just would be nice if Apple would make 32GB the lowest space available.

I've submitted my .edu email twice now and I still haven't received a code. Guess I'll be saving some money.

Make sure you check your spam, mine tend to go there.

I did, nothing there either. My current iPad still does what I need decently, so I think I'll wait until the new gen comes out and then decide if I need an upgrade or not. Plus I just bought a monitor for my MBP instead :p

Even if someone only looks at the sticker price and knows nothing about iOS vs Android, at this price the mid-range Android tablets don't stand a chance.

In addition to (IMO) the slightly superior of iOS in most aspect, the mini R is the actual high endmodel, beating the bigger sibling Air. So no Android device stands a chance at this price.
I own and use both Apple and Samsung phones/tablets; and after a brief period of 5 weeks, the iOS devices prove more usable to me. I also understand there are a users out there who would refuse to touch anything Apple for various reasons. I am not surprised at all, for most Apple haters I ran into, they all know very little or care about mechanical design or the novelty of user interface.

Well, that is a much better price. I love my Mini, but it was kind of hard to pull the trigger on it knowing that other tablets would often have better specs (RAM, for example), even though they were cheaper.

Oh well, I love my mini, although I do have to struggle with Safari's forgetfulness quite often.

This was such a pain in the butt to explain to Best Buy. They thought I was talking about the $50 which is already a sale. I had to navigate on my slow mobile network then eventually they let me use an in store mac. I didn't need to print it, but I took a pic of the barcode since there was no printer hooked up.

Anyways, I was able to tell other customers looking at Macs that there were sales on Macs and helped someone pick out a computer. More than I can say for the employees everyone was wearing Microsoft shirts.

Then I find out they made the home page on their macs the .edu deal page. But if you go to the regular site you have to dig a little to find it. They were oblivious to the whole thing. Don' forget about tax. I think I paid like $417 total or something for a 32gb Space Grey Retin iPad Mini.

My thanks to macrumors for making me aware of this promotion. I picked up a new iPad mini retina 16GB wi-fi yesterday for $299 plus tax and Best Buy included a free Targus case.

Ordered online and went to the store to pick up - Best Buy had sent the order to two different stores and I didn't notice that until I arrived at my local store to pick it up. They sorted it out at the store but it took a half hour or so, were very good to deal with.

It's a great device. I don't need more storage or 4G and it was terrific to get it for such a great price.

This is not entirely true. My 16GB iPad Air has 71 apps installed, 23 of those apps are games and I don't even play them all. 16GB is't enough only if you want to have music/videos on the device.

You can even have music within 16GB, as long as you confine it to playlists and not your entire library. And the cloud gives you even more flexibility. In fact, I have occasionally included a full-length movie to watch on the plane. It's just a matter of managing your space.

I feel like a bad Apple fan, got and iMac late 2012 and iPhone 5s but never bought an iPad. I agree 16Gb is limiting and it's a shame Apple didn't manage it fit a SD slot in it to make them more useful and expandable.

I'd go for the 4G 32Gb mini and probably on a telco plan so you pay it off over time. Doing that with my iPhone with 64Gb or space!
