I meant in terms of what you’re getting for the price. It’s essentially an iPad Air with a higher pixel density screen. Obviously this isn’t going to make a difference in real life use (unless you have way above average eyesight). I thought they’d have some other differentiator in terms of specs to warrant people spending the extra 100 on the Air.

Everything else being equal, bigger screen size is differentiation enough to warrant a higher price.

Got an Air already ummm
In the end, for me, I think the Air's screen size suits my need more…

I think the mini is great for the girls though!
Yea got the air too as it seemed to be the better upgrade. I'm not sayin the new mini ain't pretty but I'm takin the air to the dance and will wait till next years model on the mini.

The ladies will love it. In a few minutes, I'll be unpacking my new 128GB iPad Air. Thought about getting the retina iPad mini, but the larger screen size of the iPad Air won me over. You feel more immersed when you watch videos and play games. I'm also thinking about the larger iPhones coming out next year that will make the screen size difference between them and the iPad mini even smaller than now. Maybe in a year or two, I'll get a 12.9" iPad Pro if it materializes. Maybe I'll get a 5.5" iPhone if Apple finds a way to make it close in size to the Galaxy S4, if not it's the 4.7" iPhone I'll get. It's an exciting holiday season for me, unpacking my iPad Air today, Sony PS4 on Friday, switching to T-Mobile next month, getting a 5s with the Jump plan.

In favor of the Air: Bigger screen, slightly faster CPU
In favor of the rMini: Cheaper, higher PPI
In favor of neither model: 1gb of sRAM

Still, i'm a happy camper with my Air!

I thought it was fairly obvious that the clock speed is lower because they can't stuff as much battery into a smaller package.

Ordered a 32GB space gray today. Yay.

But wouldn't shorter LED strips consume less power?

The iPhone is too small and the Retina iPad Mini is too big. I want one that is between the two size wise. I guess I'm the odd man out. :)

That's pretty bad news, particularly if there's also thermal throttling as in the 5s, vastly reducing the performance after 1-2 minutes of full-speed operation.

Not necessarily. It may have the same clock speed, but doesn't mean it has the same software telling it when to throttle back.

The iPads are a no deal. It's a shame with only 1GB RAM. Is this the iPhone 5 on amphetamines?
It's like Apple is pissing in our pockets, giving us a Porsche with a defective air conditioning on a summer day + traffic jam.

It has 1 GB......

for movies and general browsing at home and during lunch breaks at work....what to get?!

The Air would be better for movies with the bigger screen. The Mini might be more convenient to carry to and from work every day, but the Air is so light now compared to previous generations.

I would go the Air :)

I have an original Mini that I got in June not able to wait for this release. I ordered one today but the LTE models are 5-10 days out. For me, I will need to see what the performance is like vs. the original vs. the Air. I got the Mini because of the size and weight difference to the original iPads. The Air certainly narrows the gap, both in weight and bezel (overall width). However, I think the Mini Retina still wins out for me. The big question before I keep this and sell my current model is the RAM. My current Mini reloads web pages every time I go to Safari, even if I don't change tabs. I have killled all apps and rebooted and also cut down open tabs in Safari. But I want to see the performance with more RAM. Obviously the screen is a big win, as is the 5X performance, but I don't know that I really see that speed increase in my usage.

Ordered 16gb Mini w Retina wifi white early this morning. This is my first iPad ever. Goes to show you how picky I am so indeed this is the best iPad ever. Those of you who ordered it too, have good taste.

Those of you who ordered the Air. Should've waited for black friday. $470 at Target + $100 gift card. No sale on the Mini though. Cause the Mini's the best. :D

Apple's getting soft in their old age. They're only asking $399 for the entry level model. Heck in Apples mind I'm sure they believe it's worth significantly more. Especially with its 16GB capacity. :D

Just picked up the Mini retina at Target. My local store just received 2 boxes, 2 minutes before I called. I was the first one to purchase as they said nobody is aware that they have mini retina's available.
