8GB is a total JOKE. Hell, even 16GB as the lowest end memory capacity is becoming a joke these days. Memory is so cheap... but I can't blame Apple for gouging customers like that as long as they keep paying... What would they save dropping from 16-->8? maybe $2 in parts costs?

This needs to change, there has hardly been an upgrade to memory in the last five years. 16GB should not exist with a phone let along a tablet. 32GB minimum.

Limited quantities of new iPad mini? I can already see the gold ones selling for over a grand on eBay.

This exactly. The whole purpose of a mini is it's portability. The thinness and lightness of the current iPad mini combined with the new iOS7 is second to none.

I just couldn't bare the weight of the Nexus 7 despite the higher resolution. No doubt, the screen is nice and I don't mind android too much either, but due to the added heft of the Nexus 7 I'd rather be using my iPad mini.

It's just that hard for an iPad mini user to trade significant weight and size for higher resolution.

Do you even lift? ;)

The Nexus 7 is a whopping 32 grams heavier than the iPad Mini. It's like saying that although you really like the taste, and don't even mind that it contains more sugar, you still prefer a peanut butter sandwich, because a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is just too much of a workout.

And so is the weight difference similar between the iPhone4 vs iPhone5/5s, and the iPad2 vs iPad3. I used to use my iPad2 much more than my iPad3, and that's only until I got the iPad mini. And the iPhone4 feels like a brick (it's still a beautiful phone). I'm pretty sure there are others out there that share similar opinions. People are sensitive to even the slightest changes when it comes to something that they have been using for a while and are very familiar with. And we're talking about "portable" devices here, for which weight (perceived weight) is a very important factor.

And as I said earlier, expectations would be different if you've already been using the Nexus7 or don't own either of the devices.

Btw, I do lift (not a slender figure).

The only thing that I'm worried about is the iPad Mini 2 becoming the iPad 3, having a tonne more pixels, but being a little thicker, heavier and possibly less battery life.

If they can address these issues, I'll be buying one as soon as I can.

Right there with you. I will not be a launch day buyer like I was with the iPad 3. The reason I'm selling it is the weight, heat and size. I hold a mini and feel a twinge of envy at how light the thing is.

However, I feel like the current mini got all the really old parts out of the iPad 2 and therefore would end up screwed out of software updates as time went on like many of the iPod Touches.

I don't see how they can't get a retina display in there or something very close without screwing up the weight and battery. The Nexus 7 has a 9-10hr battery, weighs 290g and has a 323ppi display.

3rd Gen iPad is up for sale right now. Definitely going to get a Retina Mini when it comes out. Retina Mini w/ cellular would be awesome for my commuting train ride.

Exactly. I bought my my iPad 3 on release date, and the weight and heat is an issue now compared to that mini.
Gonna wait around this time, don't want to make that mistake again.
I still love my iPad 3, but its not a 4, and its not a mini. It sounds childish, but thats how I feel.

I really thought there would have been some more info by now on the release of an iPad mini 2, i thought there would have been more leaked photo's and details of specs by now, what happened to the 15th of october event. I am sick of waiting, we are no further on than we were a month ago, i am beginning to think the earlier reports of it being release early next year might be accurate after all.

I am very disappointed in Apple, but i am still not going to give in and buy a current gen mini.

Apple will release a non-retina iPad mini 2 this month and then a retina version after New Years.

I hope you are wrong and we get the retina version this month, but we will find out for sure in 10 days time.

Total Confusion about iPad Mini Retina!

Not sure who is in the know! I expect an iPad Mini Retina with A7X, 4GB RAM, M7, 802.11 ac, IGZO display, dual flash

How will a leak of tight supplies maximise profits? Please think it through. Do you really think that that would compensate for the amount of people that would opt to buy something else in stead?

It's ridiculous how people here see a "grand psychological strategy" behind everything that Apple does.

edit: what WilliamLondon says a few posts above.

People hear "limited", people then want. That's basic MARKETING.

People won't buy something instead if they can get their hands on something so limited.

I'm just glad I pre-ordered.

Though it did seem a little peculiar that Apple was taking pre-ordered on Craigslist and I had to mail them cash.

Nonsense. A lot of people might be put off by the notion of having to wait and go for another device. The positive marketing effect of calling something "limited" has never been proven to outweigh the negative effect of people opting for other devices. If it's basic marketing than please mention a book that has proof, because I probably should have come across that book during my studies.

People won't buy something instead if they can get their hands on something so limited.

That's a blanket statement that is just plain wrong. Where did you get your marketing "expertise" from?

Wow - - "should not exist" - - strong words, Xiroteus!

Let me word it better. 16GB should not exist in todays market as 32GB should be set at the price 16GB currently art. 16GB is dated and has not changed in years.
