Have not seen anything posted on this site to make me think the 1.3 is worth the additional money.

In truth 1.2/256 is probably the sweet spot given this is version #1

We don't really have any useful comparative benchmarks of real-world speed. However, there's a bunch of moaning on here about slow performance and I can report that my 1.3/512 eats anything I've thrown at it. I'm used to a maxed-out riMac so am surprised how well this little machine runs things. Obviously I don't have a lower model to compare it with though.

Which Macbook Retina? 1.2/512GB/Space Gray

Why did I purchase? I wanted something lightweight for when I travel and return to school in the fall.

Previous Device(s): Window desktop running a 4.0GHz Core i7, 16GB Ram, 6TB internal storage, 4GB GTX770 graphics card. This is my powerhouse and primary computer.

Primary Device?: No, this is a secondary machine, see previous device for primary machine information.

Occupation: Printer Technician aka Wrench Monkey and future student.

Primary Uses: This machine will be used for when I return to school in the fall. Netflix, email, browsing the web, Twitter, Reddit, YNAB, iTunes, etc.

Which Macbook Retina? 1.3/512/Silver

Why did I purchase? For traveling, couching, showing off in Starbucks. For a better keyboard than the iPad has. Not my main machine. Got a Dell workstation for that.

Previous Device(s): rMBP 13" late 2013 (pretty darn good!), rMBP 15" 2012 (too big & heavy), MBA 11" first gen (great size, but meh, the display).

Occupation: Game dev

Primary Uses: some light photoshop, web browsing, Evernote, python programming (Maya), indie gaming, C++ programming (Qt)

Super Impressed

Which Macbook Retina? 1.1/256GB/Space Gray

Why did I purchase? Wanted something smaller which I could always have with me for writing. Also liked the colour options and the one-port challenge. :)

Previous Device(s): iMac 27" Retina 5K, rMBP 13" 2013 (which I sold to buy this).

Primary Device?: Yes, use this at work/home daily. Plus a 5K iMac for Video and photo editing.

Occupation: IT Manager

Primary Uses: Use this at work and home with Parallels (Win 7 Pro), Ulysses & Scrivener, iA Writer Pro, Pages, Office 365, Spotify, VLC, Logmein, Skype, Evernote and Photoshop all running at the same time.

Thoughts: Really impressed and not missed my rMBP once. Love the keyboard and trackpad too.

Which Macbook Retina? 1.3/512/Space Gray

Why did I purchase? I travel daily. I wanted the smallest possible Mac without sacrificing things like speed or a Retina display.

Previous Device(s) Had a maxed-out 13" rMBP, and it is now gone.

Primary Device? Yup, just as my rMBP was. No external monitor or iMac here.

Occupation Digital nomad

Primary Uses Watching movies, ripping Blu-rays, writing documents, etc. My Mac is my workhorse though, and I really prefer a desktop OS over everything else in day-to-day usage.

I'm glad the rMB finally exists. Pretty much the perfect laptop for me. I get the Retina display and a powerful laptop in a super small size.

Which Macbook Retina? 1.3/512/Silver

Why did i purchase because it's the Macbook i've waiting for about 6 years!!!

Previous device(s) Asus EeePC 10,2" Hackintosh (OSX 10.6.1)/ Macbook pro core2duo 13" (2009) / Macbook pro i5 13"(2011)

Primary device? Yes! Replacing my Macbook pro completely

Occupation Television Studio-Technician

Primary Uses Use it for all the office stuff, concept draw (producing detailed technical schemes), gaming (just some older things like Half-Life 2 / Trackmania etc), do RAW-Foto-Adjustments with Apple Fotos (almost as powerful as Aperture), jamming with Ableton Live / APC-40 controller and last but not least, it will be my new travel buddy!!

Since i've used my ASUS EeePC Hackintosch a few years ago almost painless (except the lack of a good trackpad and the annoying small screen resolution), i was waiting for a small, reasonable Macbook which has a acceptable screen! Finally here it is and it's just gorgeous!!!

Which Macbook Retina? 1.1/256/SG, still considering replacing it with 1.2./512/SG (probably won't, because I can't be without a computer for another month...)

Why did I purchase? My previous Mac was showing its age, and I just wanted this little wonder.

Previous Device(s) MBP Mid-2010 (base model), iPad Air, iPhone 5 (sold all to buy this one, and got a beautiful amazing cheaper Meizu MX4 as my trusty smartphone)

Primary Device? Yup

Occupation PhD student and researcher

Primary Uses Keynote, Pages, Word, Excel, Transmission (don't ask), VLC, Lightroom, Photoshop, pdf reading. Handles all very decently, though scrolling through large pdf files is a pain.

Which Macbook Retina?
1.2/512/Gold

Why did I purchase?
For me its main criticism is its biggest strength: it's an iPad with a keyboard and mouse that runs OS X. So it's light, fast (for everyday tasks), and great to use. I can't even tell when it's in my backpack!

Previous Device(s)
This replaces a MacBook Air. Which was fast, and the battery was incredible... but that display! *vomits*

Primary Device?
No. Primary device is a fully-loaded iMac 5K for the heavy lifting! And the iPad is perfect for even lighter work than the MacBook is designed for.

Occupation
Student.

Primary Uses
Very basic: web browsing, email, video watching, note taking, Spotify, Twitter. Has plenty of horsepower to do this, though the UI lag could do with some tweaking, and a longer-lasting battery would be nice (I got up to 14 hours on my MBA using it conservatively; no more than 8 on this).

Which Macbook Retina?
1.1/256/Silver

Why did I purchase?
Need (or, rather, want) a retina laptop. Also want a more portable notebook.

Previous Device(s)
Macbook Air 13 inch and iMac at the office at work.

Primary Device?

Not really. It's hard for me to point to my main device since at work I work at my own iMac for data analysis, Windows and Linux for experiment control. Usually I use my Macbook air for portable equipment monitor. I write code in all platforms and git push/pull to sync across all computers that I use.

Outside work this new rMB will easily be my main machine since I don't do anything but watch youtube/nico, listen to internet radio and read webs.

Occupation

Researcher

Primary Uses

Watch youtube, listen to music/internet radio. Read web page. Do light coding, Keynote word etc... Nothing related to heavy video editing or intensive computation at all.

Which Macbook Retina?
Gold 1.3 Ghz, 512 GB.

Why did I purchase?
For most portability and light weight. I use Windows since I was five...twenty years passed, I want to change now.

Previous Device(s)
Surface Pro 2 i5 4200U model, 4GB Ram and 128 GB.

Primary Device?

for most yes, rMB will replace completely my Surface Pro 2 that I use most now

Occupation

Law's student

Primary Uses

Standard use like Office (for university'a note, PDF and slides), multimedia, email checking and Internet browsing...generally standard use. I'm not especially into video, audio and photo editing (rarely and I do only basic tasks). Not into gaming AAA, I have got already other specifically devices for that.
