If this turns true. Oh Hell No to the 16GB ram included at the highend model. IMHO that's where Apple is milking those with money and no idea that ram can be purchased for much less.

I'm still hoping for "Retina" displays in all of the MBPs.

Yeah, buuut with a sealed laptop without the ability to upgrade on your own for cheaper, you've got to pay the big bucks up front. The Air is not user-upgradable for example and if the new MBPros go the same form factor, we may lose the ability to upgrade those too!

Apple is discontinuing their 17inch models. It is there least sold laptop. Some one suggested that apple will probably push you to buy an 11, 13, or 15 inch and a 27 inch display if you need the added screen. My wife has a 13in and I have a 17in that we take turn using a thunderbolt display when needed. She loves that added screen size when she is working from home.

I can't picture carrying around a 27 inch display. If the 17 inch Macbook Pro is dead, this is a very sad day.

I think it's a really simple pricing model.

Compare the features/price of iMac/Mac mini to the Mac Pro.

Now draw a similar comparison between Macbook Air/Thin Macbook Pro vs Macbook Pro.

The MBP is just going true to it's name for a truly Pro audience. The consumr level price points previously held by the MBP will now be held be the thinner MBPA/MBA.

All speculation in good fun. Only a couple hours more before it all unravels.

Impressive to see how everyone already responds as if they absolutely "need" the top of the line with retina, 16GB ram and 786GB SSD.

I can truly understand that simply with this newsposting, all your current laptops have stopped working magically which *requires* you to upgrade. :)

A lot of reasons...

There are many better ways to spend all that money (if true).

The machines that are currently available - are beautiful and if you are clever and frugal you have many options to upgrade them yourself to exactly what you want.

All this talk of having retina display and slimmer form, exactly how slim and how sharp until you are totally satisfied? I don't think there is an end to this.

This is a case of the 'next best thing' syndrome or I call it fetish. Sometimes I wonder if this is about computing or new car show, except all the models standing around are men in Armani suit jackets and blue jeans instead of birds in bikinis. Wait a minute - mmmmmmmm, jackets, mmmmmmmm blue ...

Reading these posts - most of them, I can imagine in my mind's eyes of big, over grown kids drooling with candy rings in their mouths and wads of cash in their fists, waiting to buy ANYTHING the big ol'man with an apple in his hand is gonna hypnotize them to GET!

However, having said that - I am looking forward to a 17" MBP announcement!

^_^

Enjoying every moment !

Still calling BS, why the hell would Apple have TWO MacBook Pro lines? And I can bet if it does, the slim version won't offer half as much power then as the current chassis design.

So BS BS BS BS BS BS is all I'm saying until Mr Cook or who ever gets up on stage and shows us the goods in 1hr and 20 mins..

Hoping I can get a retina 2.6GHz 256GB SSD with 8GB of ram for under $2400 with student discount. Then I'll upgrade the ram for cheaper by ordering 16GB from NewEgg. 512GB SSD would be nice but it's going to be SO expensive! And are these new SSDs expected to get a speed bump? My current Apple SSD runs about 220MB/s. Current gen SSDs run about double (or more) that speed.

I've been getting by with 128GB and dumping media files to disk once I finish a project—but it's a huge pain to deal with. Photoshop scratch disk always fills it up quickly if I'm not hooked into my FireWire drive as a cache. And I can forget about installing Steam games to disk. With 128GB extra I can have a big cache, some games, and space to store a couple projects at once! Maybe even move my iTunes library back to my main disk? My library isn't that big.

$4000

Makes the $2300 I spent on my 15" Macbook Pro seem totally reasonable. I'm sure that's the BTO option, and I'm sure a good $1500 of that is devoted to a gigantic SSD.

Anyway, if these are indeed only equipped with SSDs, I'll happily stick to what I have. I need all the onboard storage I can get for what I do with my Macbook Pro, and I'm pretty sure I can't justify spending whatever huge sum of money it takes to get a >750gb SSD in one of these.

Nevertheless... looks cool. We'll see if they're right in 1.5 hours!

Everyone needs to wait on the keynote and stop with the guessing around I'm excited just as well but I can wait an hour to find out the truth!

Now I don't know if I should go with an air or pro for college. Most likely going into something business related. I was leaning toward the 13 in air.

I was hoping these new models would be SSD + HDD for more storage without breaking the bank. SSD prices will eventually come down, it's just not happening fast enough.

One more thing that makes this all BS, one is Mac Rumors seems to have NO sources of it's own and has spent the day copying what ever 9to5mac say's so it's ALL from one rumour site.
And two, just how the hell has Apple got a 768GB SSD drive? Has it got a 512 and a 128GB drives separately mounted???

Last time I checked, 768GB drives were only available in PCIE cards or full size drives...

Or Apple burns through the entire world wide capacity and prices go up!

I'd like to think that was true, but Apple could push prices in the opposite direction.

As to the $4000 that is in reference to a foreign currency, I could see Apple managing a lower price. In the end though we really have to see the hardware in its entirety. The price may be justified.

In any event an hour and a half to go!

Yes, $4,000 is a bit much, right now ... but the good thing for us non-rich folks is that with Apple now pushing SSD's so hard, the prices should fall even more quickly in the coming year or two.

So, maybe next year, I'll pick up that 1TB ssd for a few hundred bucks!

That much flash memory would be absolutely sweet. Can see it being eye wateringly expensive though. As it is, I wonder if the 512GB version will drop in price (considering that SSD prices seemed to have dropped a fair bit recently...)

Although it is not a Retina display, my 27" iMac is very clear. It would be interesting to see how a Retina display iMac would look.

Right now I have the 15" MBP (Early 2011). It is clear for me too, but I do love the look of printed text. I bet once Apple introduces Retina displays on their laptops and desktops PC manufacturers will follow.

I bet these are not upgradable in any way. Everything is soldered on the motherboard.
