im going to buy a new mac this summer, but i cant decide between the two. a base retina macbook pro (with no upgrades) OR maxed out 13inch air (8gs ram, 512 ssd, i7 processor). the prices are similar

    My uses will be
    -light photoshop
    -video editing
    -school work
    -Some gaming (diablo3, starcraft 2, gta4, LoL)

    Please help!

    the 15" also has a discrete gpu - the 13" doesn't

Unless you run at 1440x900, that GPU will get raped by those games.

Personally, I'm a fan of portability, but I play a lot of games.

Whether the gpu might be overtaxed by the massive screen res doesn't change the fact that the 15" has a discrete gpu and the 13" doesn't.

The Intel HD4000 can run Crysis at 1650X1050. That's damn impressive. The 15" Retina display will soak up much of the GT 650M's power, which isn't exactly impressive in the first place. The 13" has more than 4X less pixels to push with a card that is not 4X slower.

Basic tasks will be exactly the same regardless of GPU, while media intensive tasks will tax the 650M more than the HD4000.
