I'm planning to buy an rMBP with 16Gb RAM.

Do I have to order from Apple, or can I get it from B&H as well (placing the order through them and buying through them)?

The Apple On-line store is the only place that offers non 2.7 16GB, that I could find. In-store I have only seen the fully spec'd version which is a little $$$$ :)

This might change in the future once supply evens out and more configurations are available.

If you want the base model with 16GB of RAM, ordering through Apple is your only choice. It's a BTO machine.

They also sell Applecare for $100 less than Apple.

J&R, so I heard, asks for even less for Applecare.

Does anyone have the 2.6GHz version with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD? I couldn't find it on B&H.

Nope, the only 2.6GHz is the one with 8GB of RAM.
Go buy it through Apple if you want one now or wait till is shows up.

Well.. looks like the base + 16gb on B&H is gone now, and my Apple order just switched to "Processing" :( Should I cancel and order through B&H and save $330, hoping they would get new stocks soon, or cave in to the wait and get it through Apple? :p

I can't imagine why best buy doesn't carry the 16gb base model

Has Best Buy ever carried a BTO model? I've only ever seen the base configurations. A 16gb model would be a BTO configuration.

is this apple confident that 8Gb is good enough for everybody or is it just trying to force people to by top of the range?
