I just got my rMBP today and am so exited about it. I picked it up this morning and when i got home there were dead pixels:( so I took it back and exchanged it for another. The second is fine and all but I have a question about the battery.

The first one, while setting it up and recognizing the pixels, told me it had ~8 hr left on battery at 90 percent charge. the second one is at a 87 percent charge and says it only has 5:45 left. I went under the system report and the battery said NORMAL and had 3 cycles. SHould the system report say GOOD for the condition?

I was happy to see the first say it could last 8 hr but due to the pixels I took it back. Now I am wondering if the second one is defective because of the battery. What do your MBPs say under system report condition?

Normal and Good are the same thing. Also, the time remaining is a constantly changing estimate, based on the current load on the system. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:
