Some people here say yes, but I say absolutely not. No way. It's just a minor spec bump and a price drop for the 13". The true 2nd generation will have a Haswell chip and will be out sometime in July or August. Look for a announcement in June

Do what I did at the Apple store. Place the cMBP and the rMBP next to each other, then go to YouTube on both and bring up the Rolling Stones Gimmie Shelter on both. (Just kidding, you can bring up whatever) and watch the clip in unison, side by side. The difference is stunning. Then crank up the sound on the cMBP (This is why I say bring up the Stones) Then turn it down and crank up the sound on the rMBP. You will be blown away by the sound on the rMBP. 3X as loud. Also make sure you do the reboot test on both.

Just went recently; here are the results of testing: (*C. is cMBP, R. is rMBP*)

Sound: R. clearer, more bass and treble, louder

Start up: R. is 10 sec., C. is 45 sec.

Glare: R. significantly less

Colors: Zebra picture background: R. clear, vivid, beautiful; C. washed out, too bright colors

Real Estate: Same, but higher modes on R. is helpful

Weight: I could see traveling with the R., could not with the C. Every ounce adds up.

Opening apps: R.: iTunes 1 Bounce, FCPX 2 bounces, Photoshop 4-5 sec. Safari <1 sec. C.: iTunes 3-4 bounces, FCPX 4-5 bounces, Photoshop 10+ sec., Safari 1-2 sec.

Keyboard: C. has more travel.

RAM: R. 8 GB standard helps with multitasking and cost

Storage: 128 is not enough for me, but 256 should be.

UI Lag: C. none. rMBP: some but not serious, even with many apps open in many desktops.

Safarai Lag: C.: none. R.: easy to see but fixed with Webkit.

Heat: rMBP helps with its dual vents: stayed cooler than the C.

Both these were the 13".

Hope that helped,
B.

Get the regular pro. If you don't use the dvd drive you can swap it with a SSD and you can max the memory put at 16gb

Excellent work. The lag thing concerns me. Hopefully that will be addressed in the 2nd generation. The 15" of course comes with 256 gigs and I'm hoping the next gen gives us more. At purchase I'm going to end the upgradability argument by maxing out the Ram

With the retina you can also max out the memory and it already has a SSD

I though the same about the lag, but because Webkit fixed it on Safari, it means that it is simply a software optimization issue. I am looking forward to a UI lag fix incorporated into 10.8.3.
