Good find, I had been wondering about emulators, just installed it and it the program itself seems to run pretty well for me, will try a few games this week.

Important note , if you compile it from source , it doesn't include the bundled Cores (Emulators) versus the App download.

I couldn't get the Cores installed via the instructions for the source install.

The App works but I couldn't get a ROM started, anybody wants to share a working ROM that I could try ?

What Cores are built?

"
Cores
RetroArch is a modular program that runs emulators and games within its framework as if they were 'plugins'.

These plugins are called 'cores', and you need to install them inside RetroArch to be able to use them.

These cores can also be used in other programs that implement the Libretro Application Programming Interface (API).

Both Libretro and RetroArch were made by the same developers, and RetroArch serves to demonstrate Libretro's power and scope."

In https://www.libretro.com/ there are more examples, like

What I meant was if I compile from source like the instructions you posted , I cannot complete these steps since the scripts are nowhere to be found :

Code:
Core Compilation

Fetching Cores

The easiest way to fetch all the cores is to use libretro-super. Run

1 ./libretro-fetch.sh

Building Cores

The easiest way to build all the cores (for OSX PowerPC) is to use libretro-super.

To build all cores for OSX, run

1 ./libretro-build.sh

However if I download the App version of RetroArch here Download (PowerPC) , the Cores are already present .

Regarding the ROMS, it seems that RetroArch needs very specific ROMs in order to recognise them when scanning your directories , I found some more info here :

Currently downloading ROMS ...

Hi there!

Sorry to bring this back from the death but...

Was anyone ever successful in using retroarch on our beloved powerpcs? :)

I'm a RetroArch fan and have it installed on Raspberry Pi, PC, phone, tablet, and CFW PSP.

A few years ago I found an older PPC build for Leopard, I think it was 1.6.0. It worked but there were far fewer cores than I expected and the performance was hit or miss. I scrapped it and went back to playing MacMAME and other emulators that were current back then, they still work very well.

As I understand it, Mac PowerPC builds are no longer being made.

Hi there and thanks for your reply!

I tend to agree but there's only one thing I'd love to enjoy more: pc engine.

For the rest I am more or less happy with Bannister's emulators but pc engine...
Is not amazing sadly.

I actually tried it a few months ago.. the application opens on my PowerBook G4 but I couldn’t get anything to actually run. But that might be user error as I’ve never really messed with retro arch before.

Which version did you use? Do you still have the link?
I tried several ones and or it does not open at all or it opens with a white or black screen and won't load any content...

I tried everything from here (link available in macintosh Garden page):

No joy :(

I’ll boot up my PowerBook and see what version is on it this week

Yes, after a while I was able to use it in my machines. Of course it wasn't perfect because it needed some optimizations (that came with much later builds that wasn't compiled for our older OSX versions) but in general it works.

I will make an thread and upload my build to help others facing this issue.
