For 180E that’s a decent deal, assuming it can take High Sierra. (I believe it can. That is MacBook6,1, right?) However, you will want an SSD and 8 GB RAM. And what about the battery?

It has hardware h.264 decode making surfing decent and with 8GB it will last you a few years. Turn on ad blocking to speed up surfing. Those Core 2 Duo machines can bog down with the bloated ads websites have these days.

Personally I would not have bought one but for 180E it’s hard to argue with that.

ok, i gifted it to my gf.
turned out it s her pref mac ever (just for the design)

now i m at the beginning again :)

need to buy another :)

@Retromac2008 I can sell you my upgraded 13" MacBook Pro from 2010 :D
Just kidding, I plan to use it as a seed box for downloads and DVDs.

Trust us: Buy a 2012 13" MacBook Pro (9,1). Thats a very valuable machine.

What? Not really sure why you're spending all of this money on mostly obsolete technology, doesn't even seem worth giving you advice at this point. Doesn't seem like you want a computer that actually handles any tasks well, just something that is old? Just buy whatever then, you don't need to ask about it here.

tnx for the advice, i was thinking about a recent macbook air more than a pro. I don t need performance and Air 's design is the best for sure. (and macbook air has already a ssd in the price )

man, it s hard for me to believe you actually used this mac :

i have it right here in front of me and it s just perfect in everything. and it s sporting the stock slow hitachi hd.
Boot-time is slow but i don t see a reason to turn it off.
I can use Safari + chrome + mail + Itunes +Ibooks at the same time without any problem.
(all the programs installed)

What OS are you running? No way that thing is snappy stock. how many tabs are open in chrome and safari? And, to be fair, running a browser, mail and listening to music isn't much of anything, even for a casual user. But if that's all you'll be doing I guess it works for you. I just worry about what will happen when maybe you want some YouTube videos playing with a lot of tabs open ans maybe a photo editor running etc etc. Also, you will no longer be able to update operating systems come next year most likely so that will cause some problems down the road.

hello!
probably "perfect" is not the right word, it s better "perfectly usable" :)

i use El Capitan only because it s faster than many older os (Snow leopard apart!)

if High Sierra is going to be fast and reliable, i m going to upgrade, but it s not a big deal !

youtube on google chrome on a single window is perfect (screen resolution is 1280x800, so no FHD :) ).
as you said, this thing is not capable of multiple youtube hd videos on chrome, it s confirmed (worst on chrome, better on safari) :)

the only horrible problem of the 2009 version is the lack of HDMI audio out! i hate it and i m going to buy a 2010 model to "solve" (it s the only way)

@Retromac2008 For me, Sierra has been performing excellent in my 2010 MBP. I just disable Siri and some other minor features and it works fast. And High Sierra is going to be even better! (If they fulfill their promises)

tnx for the report!
i hope in high sierra too for better performance on old macs (and external gpu support on new macs with tb3 :) )
