so, I was able to pick up a new 27" iMac 2019, base i5, radeon 570x for a great price at Costco.

I now see that they have a 2020 27", base i5, radeon 5300, 256gb ssd for a similar price. ~$50 more.

I'm still in the return period and wanted to know if you folks would make the jump? Only, problem with the 2020 is the 256gb soldered onboard ssd. Now, I did upgrade my 2019 iMac's internal 1tb fusion, to a 512gb nvme drive. I'm pretty good at taking apart the iMac. new OEM apple adhesive too.

upgradeability, vs soldered onboard ssd. if I need more drive space then it makes it kind of clunky to installed an external usb-c drive.

I don't think they take back iMacs that have been disassembled. Do you plan to mention that when returning it?

of course I'll tell Costco. I suspect they don't mind. it's just like opening any type of pc, albeit a little more involved

If you've "opened it up", they're NOT "taking it back".

You have what you have.
Since you've modified it, it's yours.

Not worth "upgrading" now for a while.

even if I could, I just hate the fact that I can't upgrade the internal ssd. with my 2019, I could put in a 1tb ssd

Sorry but several folks in this thread dont know what they're talking about in terms of Costco's return policy. If you are in your 90-day return window, they will absolutely take it back. Computers can be opened up, just like any other products. If you aren't satisfied, you can always return your products. Costco has one of the best return policies in the entire retail industry.
I have been shopping at Costco for over 12 years and have returned many things, including massive 75" LED TVs that had issues. They just ask if anything is wrong with the item just to document it.

yea, I was in the 90 day return policy. I could've returned it w/o any issues. been a Costco member forever

anyway, I kept the 2019 iMac and I figured the ability to upgrade internal ssd out weighed the benefits of the 2020 iMac

For whatever it's worth., I bought a refurbed 2019 and then a 2020 and I found the 2020 MUCH better. Returned the 2019.
