I did it...

First, I returned my tb model for a nTB because I didn't like the touchbar. But the battery life! I keep getting blindsided with low battery notifications after like 2.5-3 hours. I'm not a particularly heavy computer user either. I mostly use it for web browsing, and sometimes for web development. I simply can't use this machine for the basic things I need it for.

So yesterday I did the unthinkable and ordered a Dell Chromebook 11 for $219. I haven't used Linux since I was in college. I'm actually pretty excited. Hopefully Apple will release a better computer next year and I'll come back. For now though, Farewell Apple! :p
If you just want to browse the web do email etc., nothing fancy and use mobile phone like applications, why not?
MacBook Pro is a another type of Laptop, you can't compare macOS or Windows10 and their available applications to something like ChromeOS/ChromeBook. ChromeBooks falls more into the mobile phone category.

In response to this..I HATE PCs and WINDOWS!! I make not bones about it! I own both and everytime I have to use the PC something doesn't freaking work. The other day I had to print a document from the PC and low and behold the PC drivers won't wake my HP laser printer up from deep sleep. But for some miraculous reason it works on my Mac without any issue. incredible right? So now I am troubleshooting drivers, settings etc...Screw anything PCs is what I say. Unless I am building a gaming tower I would never use one as my primary machine.

You need to contact HP about their drivers. They are POS. In fact, most HP printers these days are flaky. I hate our latest laserjets.

I had the 2016 15" top spec'd MB model and I found it to be an overall great laptop. I returned it after four weeks - only because I thought some of the first generation kinks (inconsistent battery life, some graphic swirls) would be worked out in the 2nd generation model. Otherwise I really like the new MBP. It was a pretty steep drop going back to my 2008 Macbook unibody. I will repurchase when the second iteration comes out - hopefully with better, more consistent, battery life, latest processor and maybe 32GB. That machine, hopefully, can go another 8 years just like my current one does, albeit with RAM/SSD upgrades on the way.

You summed my reasons for waiting for Gen 2 (minor inconsistencies, early USB-C adopter issues). Luckily I am "slumming" with a 2015 15" loaded rMBP.

They won't.

They are not going to change the design for the next few years. After that, they will probably make it thinner and lighter.

They will probably squeeze one extra hour of battery life and add 5-10% speed increase in 2017.
*shrugs* You're right. I know Apple is not going to do a 180. They would never admit they were wrong. Years later, Apple still hasn't backed down on Apple Maps. They're going to overhype a few marginal improvements, and gradually people will forget how great the MBP once was.

Yes, they will ignore the "backlash". This being the best selling MacBook Pro will help.
I believe that the reason we're seeing "record" sales, is because there was pent up demand for the machine given how delayed it was. Personally, I needed a new computer a year ago. I expected it to come out last March. As the months passed with no word of a refresh, I got more and more excited thinking about what Apple might be working on that would cause this delay.

I suffered for months on my broken-ass 2013 MBP. My wifi didn't work 50% of the time, there were deadspots on the trackpad and keyboard, and my screen was cracked. However, I still waited because I knew something great was around the corner.

Apple announced the MBP and within a week announced that they'd hit record sales. Anyone with common sense can see that, while the computer looks nice, it's not even close to a 10x upgrade over the previous model. It makes no sense that this computer would reach record sales that fast purely on its own.

I'd also point out that the "Waiting for 2016 MBP" thread was over 1000 pages long when the computer was finally released. People had high hopes for this machine, which makes it all the more disappointing.

For those that bought, this is CLEARLY the best laptop available today. For people who don't agree, they have voted with their wallets, which is the way the free market works.

Except for those that bought and had to return multiple units due to problems.

read somewhere that Intel just released 7th gen Kaby Lake processors with future Macs and MacBooks in mind. So hopefully, the second iteration of the Macbook Pro will have most of the kinks worked out, including the battery life issue.

It's unfortunate that people would have to pay high-end prices for a laptop with so many "kinks" to be worked out. It seems Apple didn't do enough testing before releasing the 2016 MB Pro. Maybe the bean counters pressured engineering into releasing in time for the holiday season. And we know who the head bean counter is.

This seems to be exactly what Apple does with new releases. I'm not sure why some of you think they will redesign next year or apologize for some perceived betrayal? Apple loses and gains new people every cycle. It's no big deal. They have been slowly ticking up since the iOS era for obvious reasons. Most MBP versions have some notorious fault that anyone affected seems to think is more widespread than it is. They continue to sell MBP's at higher prices than "comparable" PCs. There is a 99% chance this cycle will continue next year. People will be "shocked" and "betrayed" when Apple does a relatively minor update with the same form. You can keep holding out for the MBP you are hoping Apple makes for your needs. But don't expect their normal cycles or their prices to change. You all have done lost your minds.

LOL!

These people crack me up! Apple didn't give them what "they" wanted. And they actually think that a LOT of people returned their machines! The reality is that very few have issues and even fewer are being returned.

Record sales are due to Apple doing MORE than most people expected. Few expected a better screen. I had an idea they'd finally modernize the keyboard, but I didn't expect the improvement in sound or a touchbar, touch ID, bigger trackpad....faster SSD. But we got all of that and more for a modest price increase.

THAT is why they're seeing record sales. It's a very cool machine with a few bugs that are normal for a fully revamped product. As things settle, you'll see more and more happy owners. Oh, wait...that's already happening!

As usual the loudest complaints come from folks who don't own one, can't afford one and so on. Sour grapes.

[doublepost=1483680719][/doublepost]FYI, as I posted earlier, my friend works at one of the busiest Apple stores in LA. The heat for the new machines is intense with demand at a crazed pace. MR obviously has roughly zero effect on the rep of these machines and Youtube has plenty of happy owners and more every day.
