The deal breaker?

No wide angle.

Yep, I use it that much.

I was comparing the Air with my 16 Pro for this past week and the lack of wide angle is rather glaring.

Everything else missing between the Air and Pro was acceptable.

Now ... 17 Pro or not? (my old 14PM had me swearing off the Max models)

That 17 Pro feels nice in the hand ....

Maybe an Air Pro will appear next year lol

UPDATE:

Yep ..... bought it again. Same thing too, a Cloud White 512gb.

At the same time I returned the 17 Pro I bought this past weekend. The 17P wasn't a big enough improvement for me over the 16 Pro while the Air's larger screen, form factor and other serendipities (currently) overcome it missing a wide-angle.

This time I committed(ish) by porting my number over to the Air. I did set the phone up as new instead of from backup.

I kept my 16 Pro, for those times I know I'll be shooting content.

I also bought the MagSafe Air battery, couldn't resist that either, even though I still have a perfectly working original MagSafe Apple battery lol. The Air and the Air battery are truly made to go together. Despite the added weight it just feels so good. The Air feels great with or without it, go figure.

Nomad Traditional leather case, Air, black, already inbound. More for style than function but the function is there for maintaining the svelteness of the phone while keeping the screen off the surface and the camera lens off the surface.

i traded in my 17PM for the air lol i rarely take photos and when i do its 95% main sensor 3% telephoto and 2$ ultra wide angle lol so i doubt ill miss the others much if at all, i only used like 40% of what the pro phones could do i just got them every year to show off saying i have the best iPhone lol

Currently have an Air and a 17 pro max. The green screen of the max isn’t acceptable, and it’s just such a brick in the pocket.

I used a mini for about three years and finally went the dark side with a giant 16 Pro Max. I really appreciate how light in the hand pocket the air is.

I’m still considering just the regular pro cause it’s kind of in between but then I’m not missing any of the camera stuff.

More so than the camera, the air is battery although pretty good just drains a lot more obvious when you’re using it for applications and video. It’s honestly not bad. I’m just kind of a fiend for battery life. I really like the air though so I haven’t decided yet. I have two weeks.

I am similarly torn. Have gone from 16PM to Air. Love the Air and how it feels in the hand and I think the screen size is a great compromise between the Pro and Pro Max. Battery life is fine but for a day out on vacation somewhere you will need a battery pack.

But yeah, no ultrawide... I really miss it. I might be returning it.

People like you should read the spec sheet before purchasing a device that you know will not be suitable for your own needs. I am sick of seeing people returning their iPhones as stock is so low that most of us are unable to purchase any 17/Air for the next 3-4 weeks. I have carried out my own research so, as much as the Air looks like my dream device, I know it is too compromised for my own needs. As such, I'll be purchasing the base or Pro model when they're in stock.

Do some research in future and stop depriving people who actually want the phone.

Jeez, chill out dude, he maybe wanted to like the Air and see if he could live with it’s shortcomings! Found out he couldn’t and now is returning it.

Apple allow 14 days to do so and some employees actively encourage you to take advantage of it.

The airs are available in al colours with no shortage so it’s not like he is doing someone out of a purchase.

There is a shortage where I stay. No 17/Pros/Pro Max or Airs are available in-store or otherwise until mid-late October.

I am not against returning iPhones however it is annoying at the beginning of a cycle when devices are in short supply. Just do your research and pick the device that is more suitable for you.

They did in Apple Sydney as well. I'm thinking of going to an iPhone 17 Pro, but probably not the Max. I have ruled out the Air.

But it helps to build up the fanfare of the device being in short supply and high demand.

Well you should have got your order in early so you had what you wanted sooner, or, you just be patient and get what you want when it’s in stock.

Getting all ragey at someone who took the plunge early is just silly, there will have been thousands of people who ordered either one of the models released. I.e someone considering going from a pro to a Max, they get it and decide the size is too big to handle - back it goes. Happens EVERY year!

But you knew this before buying.

I also traded by 16PM and so far no real concerns. The Air is nice, light and it meets my use case.

I am not being ragey at anyone, it's just a minor criticism. There are genuine people who aren't out just to "test drive" certain devices and have good intentions when purchasing a specific model but find out that the device they've purchased just isn't for them. It's not always obvious if a device will suit your needs. This guy said that the no wide angle lens was a deal breaker. 5 minutes of research would've prevented this from happening.

Apple employees always encourage people to take advantage of the return policy because it still counts as a sale for them. They don't care if you come back within 14 days to return the device.

I used an air a couple days and went back to a pro max. Realized I used the extra cameras more than I thought. Also, I'm sitting here at 10pm and my battery is 80% after unplugging this morning at 7am. The air would be like 30% or less at this point.
Perhaps in your use case but no true for others. I got two days of charge with my use case.
