Actually the 17 Pro is almost 20 grams heavier than the 15 Pro. It’s noticeable. I went from 14 Pro to 15 Pro and I noticed the lighter feel of the 15 Pro immediately.

Just for reference:

14 Pro - 206 grams
15 Pro - 187 grams
17 Pro - 204 grams
You’re correct. I meant to say the 13 Pro. The 13 Pro is the same weight (204 grams) but 1 mm thinner than the 17 Pro. I still have that phone and even that feels much chunkier after handling the Air.

The Air is so light and comfortable to hold that hand gymnastics weren’t even an issue reaching about. The weight of the 17 Pro is heavier and noticeable and more uncomfortable, it is easier to reach all the screen though because of its size.
I agree with you, the 17 Pro is definitely easier to grip/hold and navigate the screen because it's not as wide as the Air. But overall I think it's just too heavy imo.

I’m torn as well. I absolutely love the Air and how light it feels and how comfortable it is in hand. I also have a feeling of how the 17 Pro will feel in the hand since my wife has a 15 Pro. The 17 Pro is basically the same size and weight but a whole mm thicker.

I have 2 children who are 7 & 8 so the camera is kinda important to me but at the same time I’m looking back and most of my pics are from the main camera. However, I do miss the .5 uw lens and not being able to zoom in 5x or beyond when I want to.

I’m going to go into the Verizon store and just feel the 17 Pro in hand and try to weigh the difference and see if it’s worth it. If it weren’t for the camera system I would 100% have no doubt about keeping the Air. The battery on the Air is fine and the 1 speaker is more than enough. I use AirPods when I’m out and about at the gym or wherever.

Stay tuned..lol

The Air really has disturbed the status quo this year with its new form factor. Causing lots of emotions and people head scratching over which device to get lol

The Air’s got a big hold on our hearts!

If you have carpal issues, not just the weight could be an issue, how far you have to reach one handed could also be an issue. There isn't a huge difference in weight between the Pro and Air, but they feel totally different in hand and in use.
This is an excellent point. I think it’s a balance of weight, size, and reach for me. I feel like the iPhones aren’t very ergonomic for me as I have had wrist and thumb issues ever since Apple released iPhones with Face ID. I type using my thumbs and get soreness from my thumbs that runs down to my wrist.

When I use my iPhone SE (3rd gen) or my Pixel 6 Pro I don’t get any of these issues, I feel relief and more comfort.

When Apple announced the Air I was excited and thought this was the answer for me. With the Air being thinner, it is easier to use one handed but two handed typing is more difficult and less comfortable for me. Adding a case has helped a little bit though. But by adding a case it has caused my Air to feel warm/hot when I’m doing anything on the phone which is also uncomfortable.

I held the Pro in the Apple Store and because of the rounded edges, it felt much more comfortable to hold but I couldn’t really get a feel for how heavy it is for longer use. I tried the 17 but felt the edges weren’t as comfortable in my hands as the Pro.

With all of this being said I’m thinking about moving from the Air to the Pro. I am hoping the smaller size with the rounded edges will be more comfortable to hold even with the added weight.

Curious if those complaining about the reachability of the Air have tried one-handed keyboard mode?

No qualms with my Air, coming from 4 years with a 13 mini. Thought I’d hate it, but it’s just the opposite.

I'm also returning the Air mainly because it unexpectedly just feels too big and isn't as comfortable to hold as my 16 Pro I find even with the thinness and weight. Now I'm wondering whether to get the 17 Pro, or if the 16 Pro I have is a good middle ground. I'm interested by how the 17 Pros seem comfortable to hold with the new aluminum design, no sharp sides.

I do sometimes miss my 15 Pro I had for two weeks, light and small.

Do you use a case? Rounded edges on the 17 series definitely helps if going caseless.

I don't most of the time no, so that's a plus for me.

I'm not strictly against a case but I wonder especially on the 17 Pro how much a case could impede the benefit of the thermals covering the aluminum.

I feel your pain!
Could the iPhone 17 be the solution? I'm sure you contemplated about this 1000 and more times already and I know it's the boring phone but it's lighter than the Pro and has a better camera than the Air...
What am I telling you!? You all know this already..
That's what I did. Wanted the Air, went to the store, experienced the in my opinion annoying sound when in landscape, had doubt about the wide angle lens and ended up ordering a 17 PRO in blue. Thought it was a bit expensive but hey, why not treat yourself to the best. Then the carrier came with a delivery date end of October. Now waiting for a regular 17 in black waiting to arrive at the end of the week 😇

I can't imagine it would have a major impact. Never seen any testing done on it before.

Keyboard is not an issue, I use 2 hands when I type.

I have small female hands and short stubby fingers. My thumb only goes like 2/3 of the screen’s width when trying to reach straight across never mind the corners. The large size makes it feel unbalanced in my hand when doing simple things like swipe to unlock or scrolling.

I tried using a MagSafe PopSocket with the Air but that wasn’t particularly comfortable either.

Had the 17 pro Max in a case for a week, and never never got hot with the case on, not like the 16 Pro Max. The Air is better than the 16 but gets a little warmer in the case.

One thing I am surprised about is how close the battery life (in my use case) is with the 17 Pro vs the Air. Certainly the difference is much less than you’d think given the size of their batteries, with the gap close to 1000mAh.

I'm another former Air user that went to the 17 Pro. I love, love, love the Air for what it is--lightweight, thin and just a well made piece of kit. Battery life was fine for me. Speaker was clearly not great, but it was a non-issue, as I rarely use it. The cameras though--I thought I could get by for a year with just the one camera. Then I had a family gathering this weekend where I took a lot of pics, and it was then that I realized I had goofed. That ultra wide lens is just something I'm not willing to go a year without. For what it is, the Air camera is fantastic. And if all you ever had was a phone with a single lens, you would be over the moon with the Air. But it's hard to take something away and then act like it doesn't matter.

I've been a Pro Max guy since forever, but the slightly increased weight and girth of the 17PM kinda put me off this year. I got to toy around with my wife's 17 Pro some over the past week and really came to love the smaller but weighty form factor. One hand use is nice to have again, and while the Air did provide that, it was still somewhat of a stretch to make it happen.

When Apple brings the Air cameras up to par with the Pros, I'll 100% be back. That form factor is the future and I can't wait to have a svelte phone again. I already miss the Air, but the 17 Pro is just fine for my needs.

The threads and YT videos of 17 Pro picture samples is giving me pause ...

Damn that Air for not having a wide angle lol
