I have a question about returning an item. I have what I believe to be a defective item, and I would like a refund. I am within 14 days and the nearest Apple store is an inconvenience. I know if I wanted to return an item at the store without paying a 10% fee, I'd talk with a Genius and work things out.

How would I go about doing this with AppleCare on the phone? If I return it via FedEx, will they examine the computer before deciding whether or not I should be paying the restocking fee?

Any info would be appreciated before I call AppleCare. Thanks.

I believe whether they offer you a trade, or want to inspect it themselves, Apple will send a box and return label for you to package your computer for shipping.

The best way to find out is to call! Good luck and let us know what happens.
