Returning my 32GB for the 16GB?????

In 25 years of buying Apple products, I never once have regretted starting out with more drive or RAM than I initially needed. Always end up growing into it, then eventually upgrading to even more. As technology and options expand, so do the user's needs.

Made the same decision last week, plus I am getting 3G to make it that much more resalable.
criteria
some questions you probably want to ask yourself before deciding on size
Do I need to carry all of my music, TV shows, movies, or photos?
Can my documents be held on dropbox, mobileme, or google docs?
How many apps do I really tinker with at any given time?
I just cleaned up my iphone (16GB). And I only use a small portion of it. I expect the same when my ipad (16GB 3G) comes in.
As you mentioned, with all the other "cloud" apps, why pay for the extra storage. I'd rather spend the extra $130 on the 3G (always on) connection.

I almost downsized my 3G to 16 from the 32, but i figured i was being cheap and won't regret the space. I have a 32gb Touch that i have my music on and that won't change. I will have less movies on it, and more on the ipad - so i know i will appreciate the space in the long run.

In the end each person is going to see justification for the size that they've chosen, or justification for choosing a different size the second time around. In the end you have to know how you intend to use the device. Me, it's consumption of my media, couch surfing, etc. I have no desire to struggle with size as I do that with my 16GB iPhone when I take a trip. The only reason I can control my use with my iPhone is the battery is in an Apple product and therefore plagued with short term power. In other words, more juice means I see myself wanting more on the device. I don't want to be tied to whether Air Video works with my NAS or if I can use Netflix wherever I am at.

I would recommend staying with the 32gb. I have a 16gb and barely have any space left. I will likely be getting a 64gb soon.
I guess I was thinking long term. It's pretty obvious that as ipad technology increases, I will want the latest and greatest. For a lot of us, this is a stepping stone. Eventually iPad 2.0 will own this version. So I wonder if getting the most memory for this model is worth it in the long run.
P.s. How do you fill up on 27 gigs worth of app data?? There is a 2GB limit on apps now and most average at 100MB

Dammit Cubs, you have a great point in a way. My thought was that I didn't want to struggle for the next 9-12 months (or whatever the timetable may be for new releases) and I hope that if the next revision does drop 16 GB (something that I've seen with both the iPhones and iPod Touches) then I may retain some of my resale value. Some may say they'd like to buy last gen to save money but still be able to partake in a couch accessory. For me, I assume next go around will be bigger and better if they don't abandon this like say the ATV or what appears to be their loss of interest in the MBAir.
Anyway, for me it was two things:

I got the 16GB and after using it for two days, I regret getting a bigger capacity. I thought I wouldn't need all that space until I uploaded apps and photos, then I was down to 6GB. I immediately sold it on ebay and bought a 64GB. Now I don't have to worry about it being full.
I think that for me 16 is not gonna be enough. My 16GB iPod touch always full and I have to keep deleting stuff as I go in order to get new stuff on. I have a big music library and I'd want to put most of that on my ipad (maybe 20-30GB) and then with apps and movies it's gonna shoot up a bit. I'm suprised they released a 16GB in all honesty. Seems a bit small if they expect these things to be full of apps and music and movies.

16 is pretty much perfect, if I got the 32 I would just pack it with video I never watch anyway and my music collection is only like 4 GB.
If I decide to get the 32 it will because I would like to not have to be stingy with what Apps I add to my iPad and as many have said the Apps can be quite sizeable.

I am glad the choices are 16-32-64. When 8GB was the lowest for iPod Touch I got that cause it was right in my price range and I was always almost right at the 7 free GB. 16 has always been enough. I could easily fill 32 if given then option, but I kinda like having to put some consideration into what I add, I don't need my whole darn library in my iPad. 😛 I'm glad there are so many things to stream video with because videos would obviously fill it up fast. <3 my Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies.

I always shoot for the top models when there are options like this. While it might seem like a current waste of money, you will be put in an extremely difficult situation six months down the road if your storage habits are altered. You cannot add Flash storage no matter what you do. Same thing with the 3G over WiFi. You cannot add that later if you end up suddenly traveling to places without WiFi service.
It's better - IMO - to get more than you need on a non-user upgradeable device like this because life throws some curve balls at you, and suddenly you need to use the devices differently down the road than you anticipated.

For you. My 16gb has 11gb of free space! 😱 (No music, no movies, just apps and pictures. I'll put a couple movies on there for my older daughter when we go on a trip this summer, and then those'll come off as soon as we come home.)
