Are you returning your Xs/Xs Max for the Xr?

You have your experience and the rest of us have ours.

What do you mean “rest of us”? You’re the only one here claiming XS has IR problems. Everyone else told you there are no issues.

And you haven’t answered my question? Where exactly did you get IR? (By doing what?)

Yeah, definitely seems like burn-in. BTW, I have OLED TV and love OLED in general.

Same here :)

I am also wondering The answers to your questions.

@1071318. I think you need to research more about the XS not having IR problems, because you seemingly appear uneducated on this. There are countless threads and articles discussing this, which for whatever reason, you don’t want to acknowledge.

Apparently you need to research the definition of IR, because the Xs has it, period. Not only that, but for OLED panels it is considered “normal”. Here, go learn something about your beloved OLED display:

P.S. This is the last time I’ll be responding to anything about the Xs and IR on this thread. This is way off topic and you’re just needing to somehow be “right”. So if you need the last word to feel good about things go ahead and have it. I’m done wasting energy on this.

I know you won’t answer, but for other people reading it could be useful. Burn In can happen on OLED screens if you keep the same static content for days and days. It is very rare. Although it’s not the same type of OLED (WRGB) there is a good test of OLED TV screens and burnin on rtings.com.

Image Retention is something completely different. It can occur after a static image was present on screen for a certain amount of time, but disappears after a time. Of course, Apple has to acknowledge this can happen, but - as Macrumors reported - they took extra care to minimize this. I have never seen IR on my X, and I don’t know anyone who has - unless trying to cause it deliberately. You can’t even find mentions of it on these forums, and you know how critical people here are. So far, @1071318 is the only person I’ve heard mention it, and even they refuse to answer how they caused it or where they saw it. It seems to me they are just having difficulty accepting that OLED screens are excellent.

Anyway - there are many reasons to get the XR over the XS. Price, size, sensitivity to PWM, personal preference.... but IR is not a reason to get the XR over XS.

Anyone out there in the fence about the Xr, don’t be! It is truly amazing. A beautiful and snappy phone. Get it now!

Reference Bolded, So is the XS. I think all iPhones are ‘snappy’. But more to the point, Thats fine The XR is suitable for you, but its not necessary to be dismissive of the XS just because some of the “Flaws” that you pointed out are not truly flaws, they’re just merely your opinion of what you _think_ you might have experienced, but you really didn’t aside from the cost savings.

is it worth it if you have the X?

I was going to simply say no and leave it at that. But if you don't believe me, read every single review that says that if you own the X you don't upgrade to any of the new phones.

The X is still a premium phone, unless you want a bigger screen and the jump to LCD is worth it for that then I wouldn't burn an upgrade for the XR.

Agreed! I buy mine outright. I am not getting stuck in some ridiculous payment plan with my carrier.

It's an interest free loan. If you have any other debt at all that has interest, I can't think of a reason not to do the installments.

Absolutely worth it! Funny how I would bet you an arm and a leg that 9/10 people on here telling you no I have even touched the Xr. SMH... The naysayers come out of the woodwork on these forums.

You seriously cannot give it a rest can you? Why don't you take some of that angst and passion and put it into something worthwhile instead of continuing with your cynicism? Don't tell me what I did and didn't experience. That's laughable and pathetic.

Ordered an XR for in-store pickup and will get it after work. I like my XS but just can't get 100% on board with OLED. Hopefully the screen will be as nice as the ones I've looked at in-store. Knowing my luck it won't be. But the law of averages has to apply at some point.

I think you will be thrilled when you get it. I too was worried about getting a bum screen. We ordered two and they both arrived flawless.

Fingers crossed for you ! Keep us posted I know you’re a screen devout

Wonder where @WilliamG stands on this.

I had the Xs Max and while everyone says that OLED display is just so great and wonderful.. the best ever. I actually prefer that LCD and returned my Max. Sure it's not as vivid in terms of colors and the clarity might not be as crisp if I am comparing them side by side. However, the text and video looks good. I do have to run my Xr in zoom mode to make the text a bit larger on Safari, but other than that it's peachy. LOL

Good luck and report back! :)

thoughts on XR screen / if dabbling

tho You got a perfect XS Max first try right? cant remember

Yes. “Perfect” is a strong word. It’s at least a competent screen enough that I’d never dream of exchanging it. I’d give it a 90%. No OLED is “perfect” and I’ve seen a lot of them. Been happy with my silver XS Max.

I’ve not messed with an XR. The resolution and PPI have me caring very little. I’m sure I’ll play with one at some point but it’s very low on my to-do list.

High on said to-do list right now is to whine about the new Mac mini’s outrageous pricing. So I’m going to stick with that.

I picked up the XR on launch day been using it everyday since I got it, no issues with the wifi it connects to the wifi immediately both at home and work, no dropped calls getting consistent 2-4 bars where I was getting 1-2 bars on the XS Max.

I returned my XS Max today was a bit sad to send it back I really did like the size and the OLED screen but it just wasn't reliable for wifi and cellular and with no fix in sight I wanted to make sure it was returned before my 14 days were up.

I returned my XS Max last week and finally picked up an XR today. I honestly like the feel of this phone much better than the XS Max. It hit a sweet spot, and though most people won’t be able to use it one handed, I can. So far I’m happy with my decision.

The only real reason to do this is money, which is a valid reason in my opinion. If you are okay with the lesser screen and bigger bezel, I think the XR is a great choice. It's interesting to see the amount of people who prefer the XR seemingly acting like it is somehow superior to the XS though (it's a great value, let's keep that in perspective). I think those sort of discussions/mindsets really need to be removed from these forums. Buy what you want, they are all good options.
I love my new XS.. it doesn’t blow the XR away though. Screens are REALLY close and I’ve inspected closely at an Apple Store. I am extremely tempted by XR but really enjoying a smaller phone.
