    Canada eh!
Sorry if this seems like a totally stupid question. I have tried to find an answer but was unable.
I have an original iphone 2g that is jailbroken and unlocked running 1.1.4.
After 3 years of trouble free life my phone now freezes a few times a day.
I would like to restore? my phone and start over. unlock and jailbreak. Can I do this without bricking the thing.
I have had so much contrary advice that i have done nothing. I came across this site in my search for an answer and have my fingers crossed.
Please excuse any stupid or incorrect info as I am a bit tech. challenged.

    Thanks in advance

A little more info and a few additional questions:

    Presently firmware is 04.04.05
    version is 1.1.4
unlocked and jailbroken using pwnage 2.0 I believe

Is there a down side to upgrading to 3.1.2?
Will that mess with my baseband? Or does that matter?
I also read somewhere to never restore from a backup. wtf?

The most common advice I have had is to restore to the latest software then run blackra1n. Can I then restore from my present backup to get stuff back on phone or am I totally out in left field?

Sorry ! I am experiencing information overload. I just want to do the best and safest thing taking into acct. the previous unlock and jailbreak. If that even matters.

Thanks for your comments and understanding.

Yes, you can... how to do it depends somewhat on what firmware you want on it now. Generally, if you download Pwnage Tool, use it to unlock and jailbreak whatever firmware you're interested in, and then use the DFU mode of the iPhone to install that unlocked firmware, it's really not readily possible to "brick" the phone.

I'm not sure if you want to stay at 1.1.4 or not, but if you wanted to reunlock and jailbreak, then pop on over to

You'll need to download the latest firmware in iTunes as normal, you may then get a message saying your sim isn't recognised or something, but don't let that worry you. Then you go to the website and click on the appropriate operating system.

I think it's as simple as that these days. I'd wait for some other replies just to verify this though. I did it over the weekend and it worked for me no problem.
