Rev 3 of G5's coming?

Well i just check the website and 2.5 ghz g5s are now on same buisness day shipping. I would suspect that they either oversaturated the market with the people who have the money and are willing to purchase a 2.5ghz rig. Or they are trying to dump inventory for a new update. My suspicions will be that they will do a price reduction across the lower end models with a higher percentage discount and when the time comes update to a 2.0 single g5, dual 2.0 g5, dual 2.3 and then dual 2.5. That fabrication process must be hitting a few snags now with the 3.0 ghz mark that steve promised a while back.

Slot loaders aren't practical on a pro desktop machine. For a start slot loaders for desktops are rarer with limited choice and are also more expensive. Couple this with the fact you are forced to use 12cm round media and I see it as a no go. I like to use 8cm disks to send out to clients, they are easier to post and look special compared to what 99% of the world uses.

Also, if they used slot-loader, the drive would be a lot more expensive, a lot less expandable, and a lot slower. x.x

Can I ask what you people buying the dual 2.5's are going to be using them for?

I am always amazed at the people who buy a Corvette when all the need is a Cobalt.

Okay, so a lot of people have poked a little light-hearted fun at the quote above, but he's the actual answer for most of us:

If you can afford the top of the range PowerMac, then it makes sense to get it. Perhaps you only do iTunes and web browsing, but it will do that for longer, and be able to run the newest OS and apps further into the future.

Imagine five years ago you bought a PowerMac, and the offerings were 300Mhz, 500Mhz, and 700Mhz. You go for the 300Mhz, because it's "all you need", but five years later, something like Tiger is released and you can't run it too well, but the 700Mhz owners can do an okay job of it, and thus lengthen the life of their machine, and also their investment.

Naturally, we can't all afford the best at the time we need to purchase, but I was just giving an example of buyer sense, over needing to run Motion and FCP HD the fastest.
