I spoke with my Apple rep regarding the issues with my current 2.0MBP. He has arranged a replacement 2.16 system, that is currently in Alaska, and just cleared customs. Yay, it's on the US Soil! Anyways...

    He told me the following:

    1. There is a new motherboard that "fixes" the whine
    2. The new logic board "calls" for less thermal paste, which should "fix" the heat issue.

Once my system comes, I will let you know.

I have another theory. I think apple is just making tons and tons of systems, then once an order comes in, they are assigned a new serial number for tracking purposes, and the build date on that serial number is only the week that the ram/hard drive/etc went in the system. We were replacing the thermal paste on my friends 2.16 MBP, and found his logic board had a totally different build date than the system itself. Is it possible the systems we are getting have been sitting?

Who thinks they really did change the logic boad and thermal paste application?

I don't think anything has changed, they are just replacing machines for people who complain.

Why would they lie to me and tell me they put new logic boards in the systems?

Not according to this. Although only mentioning the 1.83Mhz, I am gonna give them a call about my 2.0.

They aren't lying the MBP have undergone constant revision since they were released infact they are already on Rev D or newer. We tend to say that only marketed upgraes are new revisions but in reallity a lot goes on bhind closed doors which we never hear about.

In all likely hood they put in the latest revsion logic board they have which will solve the majority of issues. Spec wise it will most likely be exactly the same.
