This will allow me to keep my iPhone 12 for one more year. But I do plan to replace my iPhone 12 with an iPhone 16 Plus 512 GB or a "regular" iPhone 16 Pro 512 GB.
If the XS indeed gets iOS 18, then it will be like iPhone 4 getting up to iOS 7 and iPhone 4s getting up to iOS 9The XS is lasting well. The iPhone X was only supported to iOS 16 yet the XS is going to at least 18.
While iOS 15 runs very fine on iPhone 6S, it’s traditionally been very hazardous to install a new OS on a very old phone. Often it ruins it.
If you care about your older phone - absolutely don’t install iOS 18 on it until at least JUNE 2025 when it is deemed safe to do so.
I’ve had several older iPhones ruined by newest iOS updates. It’s really risky.
In fact I’d go so far as to say that iOS 18 will likely be malware on iPhone XS and iPhone 11
That might be a hard no.They better support some AI features on the iPhone 15 Plus, even if it is not done on-device (opt-in)!

So just half the stack? Come on dude, u haven’t the slightestGoogle and Samsung do now too, and they don't control as much. This can be said about battery efficiency, but not about software updates. There are Android phones released in 2015 still working today. I know many people who still use the iPhone 7 Plus is in great shape as their second phone.
The X SHOULD have gotten iOS 17 (and could have handled it), but due to the checkm8 vulnerability, Apple decided to pull that plug. The XS is lasting well. The iPhone X was only supported to iOS 16 yet the XS is going to at least 18.
“According to Gurman, the on-device AI capabilities will largely require an iPhone 15 Pro or later to work”Still baffles me that iPhone 14 Pro is rumored not to support AI.
Especially considering that the iPhone 15 does have THE SAME A16 processor as the 14Pro, which would mean:
- either the 15 "regular" doesn't support any AI
- or the 14 Pro doesn't on purpose, which would mean an immediate lawsuit against apple...
Lmfao I’d love to see this. Apple is not legally bound to bring new features to your old iPhoneor the 14 Pro doesn't on purpose, which would mean an immediate lawsuit against apple...
You have a choiceOn the other hand, should Apple offer users the option to only install security updates for supported major software releases, users would be happier knowing there’s an option to not drag their devices down to a crawl with newer major software releases.
Still, using android is an inferior experience but finally google is at least trying to support their products for once.Google is promising 7 years of updates, which is very good too.
If the major players settle on 8 years of support in the end, it will be fantastic for consumers. The trailing hardware is becoming more and more powerful, so there are less concerns of the updated software lagging.
Apple keynote is today so it’s not surprising.Deja vu? What's with the article rehashing?
My 14 Pro Max has 6 as well. So what does that mean? 🤔🤔RAM. It's probably as simple as that, when it's all boiled down. All Macs have at least 8, 14 Pro and 15 have 6.
And even a not even year old phone in the non-pro 15 is included in this"Unfortunately half of the features of this new OS will not be available for older models."
You know...

That makes sense now that you say it. Nothing to do with neutral engine but everything to do with RAM. Not I am thinking we will see iPhone 16 and 16 Pro getting a bump in RAM to future proof it for AIRAM. It's probably as simple as that, when it's all boiled down. Just like the iPhone 15 with the same A16 and 6GB RAM as the 14 Pro got the 24mp photo option and my 14 Pro didn’t get it.Still baffles me that iPhone 14 Pro is rumored not to support AI.
