Hi,

I've read (correctly or not) that this isn't possible pre-Yosemite, but it's so illogical to me, I'm hoping there is a solution at least in Yosemite.

The only way I can appropriately arrange files for my purposes in many folders is "arrange by: kind", "sort by: date created". I don't want the folder divided up into different days, weeks, etc.; I just want the files arranged firstly by kind and then sorted by date created within those groups. So it accomplishes that. The incredibly frustrating problem is that the earliest created files appear first. Is there no way at all (within icon view) to reverse the order?

Thanks.

You can try switching back and forth between Icon and List views. At the top of the Date Created column in List, click the arrow, then switch back to Icon. Can't test that now, but curious if it will work.

If I use View -> Arrange By -> Kind and then click the column heading for Date Created, I can toggle the order, within kinds, between newest-first and oldest-first. Is that what you're after?

Thanks, but no, that doesn't change the icon layout.

Thanks, but what I'm concerned with is icon, not column, view.

Darn! Just curious though; since Icon View does not display the date, just how useful is it to you to sort that way? I'm guessing that's why Finder won't / can't do it.

Only because I can identify the files faster that way. Thanks anyway.
