You lost me at Ram. I wish American cars weren’t atrocious tanks and were way more reliable.

Vehicles should be efficient and reliable. German cars are designed well and Japanese cars are efficient. I love my Toyota. Going on 4 years with no problems. I’ll drive that thing into the ground!
[doublepost=1548613308][/doublepost]These things should only be sold to those who own farms or work in construction. It would cut back on all the road raging rednecks. Maybe require certification to purchase or a large tax for all the fuel they’re burning.

I love the big screen. It seems pretty useful but American designers have no sense of style or creativity. The user interface looks like a 90's website. All those big buttons, bevels, too many colors and ugly icons. Too busy in my opinion. I still applaud the innicciative, but look at a tesla screen and it's clean and modern.

Yep. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. User Interface needs to be approachable and simple, especially if you’re driving. You want to design it in a way where the user shouldn’t need the manual. Look up Dieter Rams 10 principles and good design.

So your ONE car example renders all FCA products “garbage” and, let me guess...all Honda products amazing?? Smh broad ignorant statements
Nice try, but one of my engineer’s fathers is the service manager at our local Jeep dealership, he said to me “buy Honda or Toyota, this horrible brand is what’s letting me retire early.”

I’m with you. For FCA defenders...Google it and you will find very poor ratings for FCA products. Wake up and smell the cuppacino. Glad mine is a lease that doesn’t extend beyond the warranty. Glad there is Uber while my Jeep is hung up in service due to poor reliably, bad service and unavailable parts. Note I made the huge mistake of getting the Alfa Romeo 4 cyl. turbo engine.

Let me add my Dad was a big Plymouth/Chrysler fan. A new winged wagon every year. A Dodge Polaris two door, a Fury III are what I learned to drive in. I really wanted to revive that vibe. But a poor product is a poor product.

How FCA survives as a company in the age of readily available reliability data is beyond me.

Family member got a 300 and had to pursue a lemon law case on it. Consistently poor reliability across their product line. If I were to ever drive a FCA product it would be as a short term very affordable lease.

If they replace buttons with touch screen functionality, that's a downgrade. Either have both or just buttons. Nobody should ever be expected to look at a screen while driving.

Well I've rented Dodges a few times and haven't had to see them break down to know they're sub-par. Worst was the ~2014 Dodge Charger, which handled worse than my 2008 Honda Accord and had a cheesy gamer-looking interior. Jeep Wrangler is supposedly a great car for what it's built for, though.

Such an ecology destructing car. Why people think they need such monstrosity is beyond me.
There are lifted pickup trucks people drive just cause, but this isn't one of them. It's important to own a pickup in most of the US, just not in Stanford (which is near where I live).

I have a couple of friends/former co-workers who have Wranglers and they love them. Maybe they are “old school” enough in design to escape issues? But given my personal experience and online reviews I’ll never go with this brand again. Clearly the Fiat DNA rules here. Had a Fiat 124 Spyder in the 70’s sexy sports car in my youth. But totally unreliable and poor service. As is my 2019 Jeep Cherokee. My bad to think things would change. Fiat has IMHO infected Chrysler with poor design, bad service, and threatened the Jeep American icon.

Even with a lease I’m not sure what the upside would be considering the huge gamble one would have regarding getting stranded< or doing without a vehicle.

My recent experience showed me they thought the dealer was doing me a big favor for giving me a loaner. Certainly guilt of damaging my vehicle while trying to repair a recall, and my threat of invoking a lemon law made them give me a dealer demonstrator.

No lie here the dealer screwed up a recall repair by damaging the “fragile” fuel injection wiring harness while trying to replace a cylinder endcap that was either cracked or installed wrong size at the factory. In fact they were stumped how to replace the part or even acquire a replacement part from FCA within 30 days. They even thought about removing a new cars wiring harness but concluded it would get damaged. Thus confirming in my mind that they screwed thing up doing the recall repair.

They thought they might have to remove the engine. So they removed the engine compartment side walls. OMG. THEY WOULD NEVER OWN UP TO THE DAMAGE. They let me try to drive off the lot while it bucked like an untamed horse. They claimed they test drive every vehicle that they service. I couldn’t move 3 feet without the vehicle moving like the transmission was falling out! What a nightmare. Bad quality control bad service. Horrible parts procurement.

One last thought regarding the original post. Trying to use UConnect and CarPlay in one system is a nightmare. Before my Jeep went belly up the entire thing froze up for 2 hours switching from one to another. Had I been on a trip in unfamiliar territory I’d have no navigation. I had no radio. Just a blank screen. CarPlay hangs when I try to play downloaded music on my plugged in iPhone.

Never buying a Chrysler vehicle again. Bought a new maxed out Dodge Grand Caravan in 2009. Soon as the factory 3 year bumper to bumper warranty finished everything started to fall apart (wound up trading it in for practically nothing after the 4th year with only 29k mi on it).

That UI looks horrific. It doesn't matter how big a screen is, if you can't nail UI, it's a just a bag of garbage.

As for the car, personally I think it's hideous but who am I to judge? Whatever floats your boat and makes you smile is what matters.

Again, you are one person...so that doesn’t mean it’s a “poor product”, you just had a bad experience. I have several friends/coworkers/family etc that has and loves FCA vehicles...but I would never be as ignorant to use a few reviews and say FCA is the best brand ever.
“Google it” and you will see every car manufacturer has people with negative things to say. They all have problems, none are perfect

The common wisdom is that FCA products are remarkably less reliable than comparable Japanese-owned brands.

The reality is if you want all the bells and whistles. You’re dropping $68k on this truck. I just priced one out and it’s coming in around $1000 per month on a lease. Going the tundra route but I wish Toyota did what ram is doing with these tech rich features.
Yet most Americans don’t have a few hundred in the bank for emergencies. This is why. Everyone has a nice truck and iPhone though!

2019 Ram 1500 Offers a Gorgeous 12.3-Inch Portrait Display With CarPlay Support

Gorgeous?!?... Stop it. It's a black mirror seen in everything from a Toyota to a Tesla, this one in portrait. Electronics don't deserve such a description.

Not a fan of the design but it's cool they put both USB a and c. Hopefully more cars start coming with USB C and wireless carplay.

I can defend it based on personal experience. I don't need to google it. You are going to mostly find complaints online anyways. Many people that are happy don't usually go on a rant about it. I'm not saying FCA is the best out there. But it is not bad as people think.

Also, I know quite a few people with a Jeep and they love them.

Edit: To the people that talk about the UI. Uconnect is one of the best I've seen when it comes to infotainment systems.

What are the latest ratings? Or are we talking about their history?

Consumer Reports for 2019 Jeep Cherokee (the one I'm leasing). My vehicle was further damaged while they serviced it for the issues listed below. Then they couldn't get the part or figure out how install it. For me Jeep has been:

"May 25 2018
Cylinder damage or camshaft failure can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Summary:
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 2.0L engines. The engines in these vehicles may be missing valve stem keepers, which can allow the valve to drop into the engine cylinder causing engine damage. These engines may also have a reversed camshaft cap that can damage the camshaft bearing causing camshaft failure.

What should you do:
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair or replace the affected engine components, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U52."

Sorry for your bad experience. I had a 2014 Dodge Challenger and now a 2018. I’m going off of my personal experience. That’s why I say I didn’t need to google.

No problem here with your much better experience. I wanted a Challenger on this go around but the spouse forbade it ;)

As I said in an early posting my Dad was a big Chrysler fan. I want to be too. A new Plymouth or Chrysler every year. Gold colored, fins and white roof every time. Yes I still look good in shorts ;)

My 2010 Charger from back in the bad ol’ days of Daimler-Benz has been remarkably reliable for a car with 170k miles on it. Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself. Of course anecdotes are just that. The Charger is one of few sedans who’s sales aren’t being obliterated by CUVs right now.

Lucky me, my wife wants a Challenger. I convinced to go for it over a Mustang because of the AWD. Plus the Mustang is tiny and cramped inside.
