Does the Car Play also include Waze functionality? I have a 2018 Traverse and just noticed that it does work through CarPlay. It's a MUCH better system that the darn GM imbedded one that doesn't;t include MAJOR updates and configuration changes to major highways that were done over 3 years ago.

Hi Ragnar51,

Yes, the Waze iPhone app works well with CarPlay. I alternate between Waze, Google Maps, and Apple Maps for navigation in my '18 Subaru Outback with CarPlay. I prefer any of them to the Outback's own navigation system.

To activate Waze with CarPlay, on your iPhone go to Settings > General > CarPlay, then drag the Waze app icon on to the virtual CarPlay screen. Next time you plug your phone into your car, it'll be there.

If you're not seeing the Waze icon in CarPlay settings, make sure you've updated to the latest iOS and Waze versions. If you have and it's still not there, then maybe post a new item in the iOS 12 forums about your problem, and you'll get suggestions from people who know this stuff a lot better than me.

Good luck!

Where would you connect an iPad if you were using one instead of an iPhone? There's insufficient space in the front storage tray, but is there room for it elsewhere, depending on the iPad size?

I don't think CarPlay supports iPad. But you can run a cable from the iPad's earphone jack to your car's AUX IN jack. And you might be able to play it over your car stereo via Bluetooth.

As to where to mount the iPad, I'm assuming you want the screen to be visible to the driver (e.g. for navigation) rather than playing movies for the people in the back seat. If the latter, there are lots of good options for mounting the iPad on the back of the front seat's headrest. But if you want to be able to see the iPad's screen while driving, search Amazon for "iPad car mount". There are some options that might work for you. I'm guessing that the smaller your iPad, the better the options. Good luck.
