You can still get a standard trans with the Jetta, but only the lowest tier.

That is what I got on the base model, it came with a 6-speed trans. This was one reason I was able to get my Jetta for sub-$16k. The only package or extra I got was the driver safety package for $400, so with that the final price including freight, but not taxes: $15,900.

One of the main reasons I purchased the Jetta was because it came with a manual transmission. Finding manuals are being rare here in the US. Not too long ago I have read that only 3% of cars sold in the US are standard transmission, and only 17% of the driving population can drive a manual trans car.

I have a teen driving now, and two more teens that will be driving soon so the Jetta will be going to them to use. I would like them to be in that 3% of people group.

I have a meme to respond with regarding your manual elitism, however it's not 'board appropriate.' :p

I am not sure about elitism, as I think of elitism as some characteristic that is not easily obtainable, such as wealth, fame, or intellect.

But, I do have some family friendly memes:

Maybe touch on the rest of the car, maybe a blurb about the ride;

I get what you are saying, but I think it is a little different in this case.

A car magazine is review many aspects about the car, which might include a little on technology. Mac Rumors isn't really reviewing the car, but is reviewing the CarPlay and infotainment system.

Besides, even if MR reviewed other aspects about the Jetta, would they have the credibility, reputation, and dependability that the automotive-centric media has? I wouldn't think so. I personally don't think that car reviewers like Consumer Reports' reviews should carry as much weight as they do with people.

I am not disagreeing with you, but I think there are plenty of reasons why Mac Rumors just sticks to what they know, and in this case, they know CarPlay and infotainment systems.

The Jetta GLI (highest tier) also can be ordered with a standard transmission.

I'm getting older now so my next car will probably be an automatic :(.

I didn't know that.

The 2019 Jetta GLI didn't exist when I bout my 2019 Jetta S in September of 2018.

Edit: It still is not out in the US, and the GLI is considered it's own model separate from the Jetta.

It still isn't available. Plus, the GLI is it's own model, like the GTI.

It is nice that it comes with the standard trans.

Never too old for a standard trans.

I have a bad left knee, but it still doesn't stop me owning manual. I own 5 cars, and 3 of the 5 are manual.

Besides, the VW clutch is super soft, at least the 1.4T is. The GLI will probably have a hard pedal.

My other cars that are manuals have hard clutch pedals which can give my bad knee a work out, but the Jetta feels like I am pushing air. The GLI will probably not be like that though since it has a lot higher torque.

I also think that Consumer Reports shouldn't carry any weight with anyone. Their views are almost always entirely off the mark.

At any rate, yeah, I see your point. My initial response was, "It's CarPlay; it's the same across all screens" but then I realized, the difference would be how manufacturers get you to and interact with CarPlay, and apparently screen size.

Screen size was never something I had considered but after reading that a 6.5" screen was cramped, it led me to revise the aftermarket head unit I was planning on. As a bonus, this one works out to be cheaper.
