None of their promotional material show users awkwardly reaching over their keyboards and desks to touch the, now fingerprint ridden screen. The image on their website shows a disembodied hand reaching straight up from the desk—presumably user is lying under the desk and poking their hand through a slot. Also, you know how co-workers point out things on your monitor to you?

Yup—touchscreens don’t really work all that well on desktops. Or so I thought. Then I picked up a free Surface Studio that just needed a new power supply. It is a terrific form factor. The hinge allows a wide range of angles, from upright to about 20 degrees, which means it can be used with a mouse and keyboard, but can also function like a drafting table. I like it a lot. Not that they ever would, but I’d love it if Apple made something similar.

I was gifted the 4K model a couple months back, it works surprisingly well sitting on an Ergotron LX. Absolutely nothing out there to really support drawing with it but gestures work well stylus input is responsive and it's really enjoyable for working with photos, I just wish we had an app like Procreate or Concepts to take advantage of it for creating.

Admittedly, my absolute number 1 use for the thing is finding my misplaced cursor by just tapping the screen.
My second use if for screen sharing and drawing onto of the display when teaching and demo-ing.

Has anyone even tried to use their PC laptop with touchscreen.. Its rubbish.. The physics don't work and even worse for a standing screen...! This is never going to be a good idea unless we are in space..
But but but, have you not seen Minority Report? The future is now.

The question is can the touchscreen functionality replace a Wacom or XP Pen drawing tablet, thereby saving a huge amount of money for digital artists? Pity the review didn't investigate.
There aren’t any 5K drawing displays that I know of so it’s a little hard to compare, but I believe the only drawing displays that are more expensive than this $1600 Alogic are Wacom Cintiqs (even though they are lower resolution at 4K). XP Pen and Huion drawing displays max out at 24” (4K) I believe, and are of course cheaper than Alogic’s 27” 5K.

i know all of the benefits of using a 5K display on macOS but i recently got a 4K 27in 144hz display and im perfectly happy with it. I got it used but a new one is around $500. I just dont see the value of spending $1000 more for 78% more pixels with a 5K display but only 60hz (which would be very noticeable to me)

I'd rather get a 4K 27in OLED 120hz for $800-$1000 than a $1500 5K 60hz. but thats just me. I mostly use my monitor for coding
You NEED a +60Hz for coding? Yea… mmm kkk

They just released 21:9 widescreens too.

I tried an Alogic screen before. Good company, but the screens were too glossy for my taste.

While I doubt I'd ever use it on a desktop situation, my work laptop (dell) has touch and it's nice for web surfing and casual gaming.

I'd love for my Macbook Air to behave like an iPad with a an attached screen for casual use. I wouldn't find it useful for productivity, though.

This design reminds me of the Touch screen monitor that Apple filed a patent for a number of years ago...Can also fold all the way down for artists to work on with a stylist like a giant ipad....I wonder if something like this could be in the works for Apple when they debut new monitors in the next year or so....

You teach your kids not to touch things at the store then you buy one of these screens..
🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ :)
