This sort of thing really needs to be e-ink, not LED backlit. They look fine in the product pictures, but these are so obnoxious once the sun goes down.
Totally agree..! This needs to be a colour eInk display which exists but is not really yet available for this price point.. Who wants a big shining display 24x7 in the evening glowing at them...

For less than $200 you could either buy a nice 6x4 photo printer (Kodak) or buy physical prints for next to nothing. Maybe it's just me, but it seems a bit backwards to be having a device that's only purpose is to display photographs. And besides, nothing beats the look or feel of real prints.

True... a nice wall with pictures looks nice, if one has the space for it. But for those with less space an electronic frame might be an option. Although I would not go for this one simply because it really is a brick.

Apple needs an iFrame that will pull from select albums automatically, just like the AppleTV.

Yes, if...
  • Integration with the photos app (and support for other apps)
  • 5 GHz support - Wifi 802.11ac/ax (must!)
  • at least OLED 2K display or comparable (must!), not some crap LCD
  • and certainly not as thick as this Aura one

People here are mentioning the Google Nest Hub (and the Google Nest Hub Max) - those are far cheaper, can be bought used on ebay for 30-40 bucks), and they have ambient light mode. They change their display brightness and colors to their surroundings. They look like actual pictures in a picture frame. Far better and cheaper than this. Fully integrates into google photos so you can have shared albums with family and friends. I have set them up at grandparents, parents, and friends. Super easy.

This might seem useless to most of us who know all the myriad ways to share photos online, but it’s a great gift for non-tech-savvy family. I gave one of these to my grandmother, who never got very good at using the iPad we gave her. My brother and I can easily upload new pics of her great grandkids into rotation without her having to do anything.

Whoever engineered this is not firing on all cylinders.

Clearly the more efficient way to handle photos to the frame would be to simply connect it to an iCloud account and pull them from there instead of having to manually select photos from your phone. That way your sideshow could shuffle ALL your photos automatically, which is what I would want.
Yeah, I'd really love to stream all my photos. Screenshots, random pictures of something I want to get at the store

No, they got this right. You want to *manually* select the best photos and send them to your frame or that of your loved one. It's seriously not that much work.

Assuming that if Aura goes out of business this is a brick? Had a Kodak photo frame like this a while back and they shut down the server and service … now ewaste.

Long time ago I was looking these kind of gadgets. Now not anymore. The real feel of the materials of the world will still beat this fake reality for a many more years

Nah they got this all wrong. Ever heard of albums and favorites?
