It's very nice to see more options in the 5k space. But if I'm already spending in the $1,200 range why not just go ahead and go for the real deal Apple Studio Display that is guaranteed to be fully compatible in the future with better specs?

Awesome to see more 5K options on the market. When we get the inevitable sales on the them will really give Apple some competition in this space.

I have 2x ASD and now I'm trying to build a use case for a 3rd display. Either this or the Asus might fit the bill - especially because my Windows PC doesn't play especially nicely with the ASD, and I'd like to be able to switch to it without having to plug/unplug it.

People - buy these things! The reason the 5K space has so few choices is because people don't buy them when manufacturers make them. 5K is noticeably better than 4K when used with a Mac. It's not a dealbreaker in that I use a 4K monitor at my parents house and it's fine to get work done, but it's so nice when you actually get to work on a 5K display.

Looks decent, but at $1199 that is only $100 less than what the ASD goes on sale for. Yes it has some features that the ASD doesn't have or include at the base model, but can't match the ASD in other areas. At least the ASUS 27" 5K Display (PA27JCV) is another $400 under that.
But the BenQ is much better then the ASUS one. At least that's what I gather, as a lot of people were hating on that ASUS display last time, while they are much more positive about this BenQ one (though I agree with you on the price point - I would take $200 off).

When will display manufactures start caring about consistently sized bezels, no lip on bottom chin, and learn that people prefer a display that doesn't show off the front facing logo even if the back is lit up with RGB.. Dell Ultra-sharps are close..
100% this. A sideways logo on my vertical monitor would drive me mad. It seem like manufacturers cannot help themselves.

I can get the studio display almost any time on Amazon for $1299 and be assured it won’t suffer this embarrassment. What even is that? That’s absolutely terrible.

Support for native keyboard controls and the built-in KVM make this really attractive. I'd definitely consider this if I didn't already have the Apple Studio Display and the Sabrent Thunderbolt KVM (which works great, but was another $300 on top of the alread-expensive Studio Display. Wanted to toggle between my company-provided laptop and my personal Mac Studio without switching cables every day.)

Finally some more competition. The 5k monitor world has had extremely slim pickings for a long time. It's good to see more options, especially at the about $1000 range. Pair that with a Mac Mini and you have something that costs similar to what 27" iMacs did.

Eh... I'd still go with the ASD. Perfection editing/processing and printing image files from Lightroom for the last two years. Why mess with success?

It just works for what I like to do and is a pleasure to sit in front of.
Agreed. I have a feeling I'd be sitting in front of this dim, plasticky monitor a year down the road and wishing I could had upgraded to the ASD for a few hundred bucks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2014 : Look at us. We are Apple. We ship an iMac with 5K display powered with only 2GB VRAM GPU.

2025 : Look at us. We are PC industry. Let us see you fight each other to death over a $2500 gaming GPU.

These ports face outward rather than downward - a small detail that makes a big difference in daily use.

Yeah, uh, in the sense that it's worse? I don't want stuff dangling to the back. I want it to go downwards so a duct at the back of the desk can collect it.
