$219?????

Bruh, I used to buy genuine Apple ADB II keyboards for like twenty quid in the mid-90's.

You can get a mechanical Logitech wireless mechanical for like, $25.

Miss me paying over fifty clams for a keyboard...

You can also get perfectly functional and well-built Android phones and PC laptops for far less than the equivalent Apple devices. Yet, we choose to buy the more expensive devices with specific design or functional advantages for us. That's great that you've drawn a line in the sand based on price for your keyboards. Perfectly reasonable decision for you and I'm not trying to tell you otherwise. But, don't be surprised if in a thread about a boutique-y keyboard others don't feel similarly—I spend all day typing. I'm sure as hell not going to do it on the default, one-size-fits-all keyboard my computer came with (especially not Apple keyboards which, to me, are garbage) or the cheapest option available (in every sense of the word).

Why is no one talking about how this uses the Apple Layout where there's 3 modifier keys on both sides of the keyboard instead of 3 on the left 4 on the right.

To me this is huge because it matches apples full sized keyboard with its big command/option/alt keys.

Most "for Mac" keyboard just use the stand pc layout and put Fn on the right which is an odd place for it.

As far as I know I've only seen Matias and maybe one other company do this..

Woof, you had me until the price point. I'm probably in on a MX Mechanical whenever I purchase a new Mac though.

I've got a Keychron K1 (Version 4) in 104keys with the blues. Has a switch to go from Mac to Windows if you use it for different computers (like I do). Also comes with both Windows and Mac keys for the Command/Options buttons. Had it for about a year now, works well.

As with all other Mac compatible mechanical keyboards, there's no French azerty layout available...
This is so annoying. My dad lives in France and he's a certified Apple keyboard destroyer. I've been wanting to send him a Das Keyboard forever but there is nothing available with Azerty format.

Glad to see they still have the Eject key on a new keyboard in 2022... 😅

(I actually did miss it on some keyboards for a while because I was used to Cmd+Opt+Eject as a way to put my Mac to sleep quickly, but...this keyboard has a Sleep button on it.)

Keychron make the best mechanical keyboards.

Reddit boards are wild for them.

PC and Mac Reddit boards.

Incredible build and price.

Other than the missing backlight, there are two other things that turn me off this keyboard. One is that it has a non-removable cable, and the other is that although they advertize this as 100% metal, the keycaps are PBT.
I doubt metal key caps exists unless it’s a super specialized set. When people say full metal on a keyboard it means just the base.

I wouldn’t say absolute best, because there are more high quality and customizable Mac options out there for more money, but it provides some of the best flexibility with Mac/Windows switching and has both USB-C and BT. Had mine for more than two years and still love it.

I STILL wonder why we haven't seen a split-layout ergonomic keyboard designed specifically for the Mac from Microsoft or Logitech. (Yes, I know about the Logitech K860, but that keyboard is still kind of compromised by the need for Windows compatibility.)

I have one on a PC, used it for many years. They are superlative and expensive. There is an adjustment period. Saddened it isn't wireless.

The price seems exorbitant for the options offered. No choice of switch type, no backlighting, no bluetooth, fixed cable — all features available on far, far cheaper good quality Mac specific keyboards with all of these options (I'm pointing at you, Keychron). I don't game, I type a lot, and brown or blue switches are far, far preferable if you can deal with a little more noise.

Hard to see this being better than MX Mechanical from Logitech. MX Mechanical also has a wired/wireless option and backlighted keys.

The best typing keyboard is still Topre Real Force for Mac, but it is rather expensive, has no backlighting and a pain in the rear end to procure. But the feel of the Topre switches is unreal.

No TKL version? 😞

I’m currently using the Logitech MX Mechanical Mini. If anyone is looking for a <100% mechanical keyboard with low profile switches and good macOS support, this keyboard is excellent.

Sorry, this is probably a nice KB, but I can’t live without Touch ID after having it on a desktop keyboard. 😃

$50 for a keyboard in some circles is considered budget.

But I wouldn't pay $219 for this.

- It's full sized (would be better as TKL, but I digress)
- There are better custom keyboards you can get for the price, and better value prebuilts (Keychron Q1)
- It uses low profile switches, so you don't have much option if you want to switch to something different down the line

If I was looking for a mechanical keyboard for a Mac, I would look for something much more capable, and more customizable, such as some of the newest keyboards from Keychron which sells many of their keyboards with the Mac keys installed. Plus I would look for the ones programmable with VIA and VIAL (the latter being the better choice) both of which use QMK. I have the new K8 Pro and it's a fantastic keyboard, built like a tank, and programmable. And the most expensive version costs $110.

I've looked at DAS Keyboards, and they are good. But from my perspective, Keychron is the best.
