Apple users are perfectly happy with not using their mouse while it's charging. Why would they demand any more from their phone?

I like this. Having the phone upright and being able to pick it up without disconnecting makes it more useful if you use your phone for an alarm clock (or sound machine, like I often do).

Most people don't update their phones every year, and the percentage who do keeps dwindling - so it's going to be a while before this is obsolete. Not to mention it's only $39.

The days of needing to keep the cord attached are over. I don't think I have ever used my phone with the cord attached. I charge and use.

Erm, because the mouse holds charge for weeks on one full charge.

The phone's battery runs out in a day or two. Hence users wanting to keep it topped up whenever possible.

OK, I realize I'm an old curmudgeon (guilty as charged!) - but can someone please remind me what is the point of a dock?

I can sync with my Macbook wirelessly or with a lightning cable, I can charge via a wall charger (always plugged in, always available) also via a lightning cable, I can even charge in my Mini Cooper via a built-in Qi charger (I realize that's not available to all) - but to my point... what's the purpose of a dock? How is it better than just having lightning cables handy (which are smaller, lighter, easier to transport or to store)?

I just don't get the point... o_O

Convenience, mostly. You can connect the phone to the lightning cable with one hand. Also, if you have FaceId, you can prop the phone up at your desk and unlock with FaceId (if it doesn't fail anyway).

As for me, I'm more likely to connect my phone to CarPlay if I can just insert it into a dock with one quick/simple motion that takes one second, rather than fishing for the cable and using both hands to try and connect them.

similar stuff they use on the iPad stands at Apple stores. I have a few of the iPhone docks around the house on wood furniture with a non-damaged 3M adhesive meant to mount on glass, it has not damaged the wood surfaces and does pretty much what this does.

but when AirPower comes along it won't matter too much
