At first I thought the same but then I realized: smart appliances/tech only works when powered and we often forget (or visitors forget) and switch off the lights or other things at their physical power switches, rendering the smart stuff useless until physically switched on again.

These allow for that but with the ability to turn stuff on again with voice or other smart means.

But the price of these buttons is absurd. I’m tempted to get some Flic buttons with their new hub. If they’d confirm they’re adding HomeKit compatibility, I’d have already pre-ordered but they’re being sketchy about committing to that functionality.

Thanks for the Flic comment, although still not really cheap it's a better option then the buttons this article is about.

They look like oversized versions of the drawer knobs my grandma had in her bathroom in her house when I was a kid. They don’t look like push buttons.

But they don’t look “artsy” enough to be interesting on their own, either. Either make them interesting on their own, or blend in like normal buttons/switches.

Also, $60.

Does anyone else see the irony in this? I pay hundreds of bucks to replace my light switches with smart technology, and then some genius comes along with a device called a ‘button’ (is that how it is spelled?) to allow me to turn on my lights without having to get my phone out or utter incantations to the god Siri

Where is Bill Hicks when you need him?
