earlier today as some might have seen my post, japan had their shipment of the retina display macbook pro on sale (for both tokyo stores). people were lining up in the morning and it was sold out in seconds. sadly, i wasn't too aware of it and missed out on it.

so i knew there had to be some reviews and i finally found one! (the above link). basically, you can see a few benchmark scores and even a few diablo 3 frame rate tests. nice to see some good frame rates!! but he doesn't indicate what type of settings he's on.

the japanese reviewer didn't say anything too significant but did say at the end that, and I paraphrase him, "personally speaking, i didn't really feel it was a retina display until i looked in the display properties where retina display is written. perhaps, as you look at it more and more, a new feeling will come!"

i guess it differs from person to person really concerning about the display. anyways, just want to share this to u all.

30FPS on Diablo 3 @ 2880x1800!

Tasty :D

Nice post btw, thanks :)
It'd be more realistic to expect lower FPS at that resolution during gameplay. The character is standing still in a plain looking environment with no major animation.

that's true. if i can get at least 45+ at a respectable setting/resolution, i'll be more than happy.

I like to see the GPU performance after an hour of gaming. If the thermal management is good (i.e., no GPU throttling) then I'm buying.

The game will render to a 1440x900 screen and 2x2 upscale it to the native resolution. Please read on how OS X resolution independence works before writing nonsense. And there is no way the 650m will run D3 at 2880×1800 if the 6970m already struggles with 1440p.
