Nicely detailed article

And, btw, you are smoking hot

Thanks! You made my day!

The title of your linked CNET article clearly states that they are testing the video aspect of the camera. The sample photos you've provided are frames from a video recording. I don't know your reasoning behind ignoring DXOMark's review, especially since these articles seem to revolve around it, but had you spent just a little time, you would have seen that DXO gave the iPhone a higher score for video, while the Note 8 took the crown for still photos.

You spent all this time attacking Engadget / accusing Samsung for paid results, but would it have killed you to read the DXO review? You said yourself that you're trying to avoid anger and regret by doing your research, yet you're getting nerved by a tech blog's commentary and using video frames to try and discredit Samsung's camera quality. Great research.

Thank goodness I read that CNET article! Everyone who looked at the Engadget article is being misled. You are not, because I linked a CNET article and you looked at the DXO review (which I have since I made the post), but do you really think everyone is going to do that? Endgadget made no mention of anything related to how good the camera is at video, and makes generalizations with the title: "Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone 8 Plus tie for top spot in camera test". There is a lot of 'less-detail-oriented people' that could be mislead misled by the article in and of itself.

The article title makes the generalization that it's tied, yet does not downplay anything about the S8 and even highlights the secondary camera which the 8+ already has. It's not about me, it's about everyone else who may be misled by taking this tech blog's article for granted without doing additional research.

Even if you say "hey look CNET is focused on video, those look like video clips" (which would be scary if a the video snapshot of iPhone 8+ looked better than Note 8 still) take a look at these stills from a different review by Tom's Guide...

https://www.tomsguide.com/us/iphone-8-vs-galaxy-s8,review-4190.html

Tom's Guide takes 4 stills, not video.
Of the 4, quoting directly from the review:

1: Take the photos of this lantana flower. The Galaxy S8 image looks blown out and less detailed; the shot from the iPhone allows you to make out more of the petals and delivers more vibrant yellow, pink and coral.
2: Apple’s and Samsung’s phones were more evenly matched when I snapped a photo of the Empire State Building behind a fountain and trees.
3: Our racoon friend here and the surrounding table look brighter in Samsung’s photo.
4: When I turned on the flash, though, for both phones, the raccoon looked more white-washed in the S8 image.

The author concludes the camera section with:
Winner: iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

Yup, I started one thread on the one issue I care about since the announcement of the iPhone X, you started about 500 either accusing sites of paid shills if they don’t rank iPhone above the competition or making pointless comparisons like whether the X has less bezels than the competition.

All of them are give close results to each other. They are phones with single or dual cameras with fixed focal lengths. Basically just point and shoot cameras without any real optical zoom ability. Compared to DSLC/mirrorless and many if not most point and shoot cameras they will come up short. But they have the virtue of being with you most of the time. Photos made when you don't have a camera are hard to come by and of questionable image quality.

Cell phone cameras are the Kodak Brownies of this century.

Just make a decision already. Either pick one or buy all three and switch between them.

OP, did the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL receiving a higher DXO score than the iPhone 8 and Note 8 trigger you at all? (98 DXO for the Pixel 2)

I just pulled the trigger on the Note 8 (first Android ever) and I'm very impressed with it so far.

I had the 8 Plus and even on iOS 11 it was very stuttery at times. I understand they'll probably fox it in a software update but the Note 8 is buttery smooth.

I plan on going back to iPhone next year after they work out the kinks with X and come out with a larger version of it.
I still have to see a "buttery smooth" Samsung phone...

I beg to differ. Not even close. Even with the buggy iOS 11 the iPhone is smoother.

iOS 11 is jittery as hell on my 8 Plus. If you haven’t owned a Note 8 or used one for a couple hours don’t try to stir the pot.

If I go back to my 8 Plus it will be due to the Apple ecosystem...that’s it. The Note 8 is probably the best phone on the market.

Because you care about it and you posted it, it's not spammy? When others start threads that they care about and you don't, you call them "pointless" and "spammy"? "500 threads accusing sites Clearly, you haven't read enough of my threads to know that and threw out 500 even though this is the only post I've accused a site of a really bad article (so far, thank goodness most of all journalism I've come across related to this topic is not like that!).

I am a consumer looking to upgrade my phone, who doesn't want a phone that wins in almost every single aspect? Who doesn't want to make sure the product they are buying is the best for the money they spend? Sure, some people might only care about battery life, others might only care about the Touch ID... like yourself, and I respect that, but for detail-oriented consumers like me, we do our research and make sure we know what product were getting into.

It's like schools, there are good school's, private schools, bad schools, dangerous and shady schools. With your logic, just sending a kid to a shady school is okay because "It's just school." If I were married someday and had kids, I couldn't live with that. I want to make sure my kids go to the best school.

Yes, huge trigger. Pixel 2 has always been on my list of other phones to consider besides the X. The existence of the initial announcement triggered my curiosity about the dual pixel technology that Google highlights, which is why I created this thread.

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...s-does-it-matter.2075245/page-2#post-25183212

No ridiculous articles have been released that has been as flat out wrongly portrayed as the Engadget article, so no site accusing of paid shills here ;)

The DxoMark review for the Pixel 2 is solid. Really solid, and I fear the X won't be able to top this, but a part of me is hopeful because of the dual OIS cameras and wider aperture... but only time will tell. The only part I do not agree with is the level of detail, which I think the iPhone captures better than the Pixel 2 even though the description says the Pixel 2 "edges out".

I am not a big fan of the design of the phone, but it's worth considering.

Samsung just can't write a line of software. That's it.
You like it. Good for you, I'm fine.
I like Android. There are a lot of great Android phones out there.
Just not the Samsung's...

Give it a few months until android starts slowing down and you will either put up with it or perform a factory reset, only for it to start slowing down again after another few months, etc etc.

This is mostly app dependent. I had an s8+ for 5 months and no slow downs whatsoever. Fast as any iphone I’ve had.

Maybe app dependant, but this doesn’t happen on iOS. I don’t have to watch what app I install because it may slow down the operating system. This is one of the reasons I went back to iPhone. Each to their own though.

Right...Forgot iOS was perfect. Nothing to see here.

I've had my S7 Edge for more than a year and no slowdowns at all, thanks.

Based on what exactly? I have both devices in my home both. Unless you’ve spent time using both then it’s really weird to question someone who has.

I’ve owned every iPhone since the 4 and every Galaxy S since the Fascinate. I know what I’m in for, kthx.

Based on my extensive experience with Samsung devices...
