Not so much the PowerBook, MagSafe was only introduced with the Intel MacBooks. But I do agree with you; it's a step in the wrong direction.

Yep your right, just checked my 17 inch PowerBook and it has the circular connector, but otherwise looks like my 17 inch powerbook.

in the 10 years i have used a macbook pro i have never tripped over the power cord. guess it just depends on how clumsy you or your friends are.

If Apple introduced a MB with no connectors and a "lifetime" (500 hr) battery, there would be people praising the new and innovative technology. Get real, USB-C, the dearth of ports, and this ridiculous trend to thinness are misguided design affectations, not real innovation.

Non reversible is killer. I'll stick to the apple solution for now

This only works if we don't have to carry an accessory. It sucks that Apple moved away from the magsafe technology. It saved our powerbook and MacBook devices on many occasions. But I guess now it is more important to Apple that your laptop crash to the floor and has to be replaced.
Not to mention the fact that you can plug/unplug a Magsafe cord easily with one hand. I've even set my MacBook Air *near* the charging cord and had it pop in by itself. That's good design, especially when you consider you'll be doing this hundreds of times over the lifetime of the computer. Now I've got a Retina MacBook and am back to using two hands to plug it in, like some kind of caveman.
