Same with me... Daily crashes and wasted time. Tired of Apple using their customer base as beta testers. Fix your junk software/Hardware, please... I wish I hadn't bought an M1 Macbook "Pro"
I'm curious how widespread this issue is and what causes it. It doesn't seem to universally affect all users on the beta.

It's mostly tied to sleep or waking from sleep.. I should test to see if it still happens without any external devices attached. (99% of the time I am running either a OWC Dock or external monitor)

Is there something that would preclude using a 27" monitor attached to the MBP at home or in the office while he uses the builtin display at a center table at Starbucks?
Only that he didn't mention using a display ever… in his home office or office office. He makes the comment that he needs the extra screen realestate of 16" or 14" for the reason of no display.

Hi
I got the fully loaded version 14” and it’s precisely what I was hoping it would be. My only hesitancy before I purchased was that some of my software wouldn’t work with it, but everything is compatible.
This machine is fast! I am happy they added HDMI so I could plug into the big screen at work for meetings.
I’m glad I went with the 8 TB storage, I use a LOT of it and will be happy to not have to ever worry about needing to free up space. My SD cards have all worked, and the transfer speed has been fast, especially since I upgraded the cards to the Sony Tough series.
<knock wood> I’ve not experienced any bugs that I could think of.
The single only complaint I could point out if I want to nitpick is the screen color is on the slightly warm side compared to my LG Ultrafine 4K. The last few MacBooks matched the screen colors perfectly, this one is slightly warmer.
I’ve been playing with Final Cut Pro X and multitasking between the 2 screens and other apps at the same time. I have yet to hear a fan engage.
The “notch” was another thing I wondered if I would find annoying, with the way they laid out the screen, I barely even notice it’s there. I haven’t found myself missing the touch at, I barely used it before. Best computer upgrade since I could remember. I’m going to be enjoying this machine for a long time.
Hi, I’m interested in getting 14 w 32gpu but I’m worried about heat, fan, and battery. Do you have this proc? Any issues w heat/fan/battery? I’d really appreciate your input.

I have the 14” MBP M1Max/2T/64G (hey if you're going big, go BIG) and think it’s the absolute best machine from Apple I’ve ever used. And my first Mac was a ‘fat Mac’ (512K Mac) — so I’ve had a few across the 37? years. It SCREAMS and ‘lasts a long time’ <grin!>

I really vacillated between the 14" and 16", in the end I got the 14" and am thrilled... I've had Macs a long time... 40+ years, and has already been said, this is the best Mac I've ever owned or used... I haven't been able to get the spinning ball once, not matter what I've thrown at it... I've got an M1 MBA for work, and I've locked it up a time or two... Same work flow in the M1Max and no fans, no heat, no lag... The screens are amazing!

YMMV

Great points! I agree in most.

Point 1, I think the braided cable may help compensate the fraying but it's a valid point.

Point 3, that has been happening since 2016 machines. We've experienced it with every generation since then, forums are plagued with these kind of complaints, after so much time I'd think they haven't found a fix, though it's entirely possible they are ignoring it altogether since they sell anyways. Audio management is pretty chaotic OS-wide when having several audio sources. This is more of a nitpick, but the sound enhancer should be toggled real time as you play music not after 3-4 seconds.. feels amateurish.

Point 5, yea no kidding! dongles aren't as reliable as connecting to the port directly. One thing we like from Apple chip vs Intel, no more screen flickering when plugging in an external monitor. Also you can play 4k vids without the laptop taking off.

Point 6, completely agree! Actually the keyboard is nice, but feels a bit flimsier than previous non-butterfly keyboard generations. Also it's backlit angle bleed is a step back as well.

All in all, something I'd like to give hands down to Apple for, after months of use, I literally haven't heard the fans spin, even slightly.
I love ur input about the fans. Do you have the 14? What specs?

I really do love my 14" M1 Max MacBook Pro. I use it all day for web and app development — it's quiet, cool, super fast, and the battery is great. I stopped noticing the notch the same day I got it, just as I did when I first got an iPhone X. It's great to finally have all these fast ports and, as a hobby photographer, I love having the SD card reader.
Quiet and cool are great, thx for sharing. What proc do you have? How many gpu?

I had one for awhile, the 14" with 64 GBs of RAM and 32-Core GPU. I then downgraded to the base 14 inch, then to the M2 MacBook Air.

The maxed out 14" didn't have heat or battery life issues and was still leagues above any Intel Mac or PC in those regards, but the heat was noticeably more and the battery life was noticeably less than the base model 14" MacBook Pro.

Does that make sense?

Been using my 16" M1 Max for almost a year now. I can honestly say concerns about heat, battery life or loud fans are the LEAST of the problems with this series of Mac notebooks! Those might, in fact, be the biggest 3 selling points in favor of getting one.

My gripes with the M1 series have had more to do with stability when running apps for long periods of time without a reboot and interaction with some peripherals.

EG. I have a really nice Samsung curved 34" display and it supports USB-C. But I'm constantly fighting with it on the M1 Mac MBP over sleep/wake issues. People tell me their curved monitors made by other manufacturers aren't having the issues Samsungs do. That could be, but I'm not real anxious to run out and drop many hundreds of dollars to replace a good, working display. This always worked just fine with my previous Intel based Macbook Pro.
