So the nice folks at Rhinoshield sent me out a Crash Guard bumper the other day to review. In case you aren't familiar with this product, it is a bumper case which promises 11.5 foot drop protection. So when I opened up the package, I was expecting a burly, heavy-duty bumper device...but what I saw was this ridiculously thin, lightweight little bumper. When I put it on my iPhone, it added almost no thickness to my 6 Plus. I've never seen my 6 Plus look so thin and pretty inside a case (full disclosure: I generally like cases with at least some claim to protection. I've never used the Caudabe Veil or similar cases but I 'm sure they would add even less bulk to my iPhone 6 Plus. But they certainly wouldn't provide 11.5 foot drop protection!)

Does it really provide 11.5 foot drop protection? Rhinoshield says it does, Mobile Reviews Eh says it does and users on this forum have provided impressive testimonials. I never drop my iPhone if I can help it, and I don't intend to test the drop protection of this case. But it is comforting knowing that the protection is theoretically there if needed.

What's it like to use? Great fit, super thin, extremely lightweight, looks beautiful on your iPhone. On the negative side, the only real problem is the amount of grip this case has. I'm still not sure that I didn't receive a lemon in that regard--very few people seem to complain about slipperiness with this bumper case. But mine is definitely on the slick side. Minor quibbles: port openings are a little on the small side (but I'm sure that is more protective) and the included back protector film doesn't like to adhere to the antenna bands or apple logo on the back of the case. But overall, this is an amazing case, even if it is a bit on the slippery side. After all, you should be covered if you drop it!

Here's my YouTube review:

Thanks!

In the Mobile eh review the iPhone was bent.

True. Slightly. But after an 11.5 foot drop! I'd be happy with 6 foot drop protection from something as small and lightweight as this :)

Nice review, Kristin!

The slippery part would be a deal breaker for me. I'm not much of a bumper guy anyway. It would be cool if they came out with a full case.

I saw the .Eh review and he did bend it, but after an 11.5 foot drop and it didn't crack the screen. Even though it was bent, his thoughts were that it did protect the phone (it was functioning).

I doubt, in normal everyday use, anyone will drop their phone from that height.

Thanks! I was disappointed about the lack of grip. However, I was kind of getting used to the feel of it before I had to take of the case in order to test the Aegis 3D Curved screen protector. It isn't actually slippery as much as not actively grippy, if that makes sense. Still a fantastic product, in my opinion. Makes your iPhone so thin!!

nice case!

That does look like a nice bumper, that will actually protect your phone! Can I ask how much, and what colors they may have?

I'm sure the zagg will work with it. I got the rhino shield with a slick wrap. Image

Love the look with the Slick Wrap! Is it textured or does it just look that way? I've never used that product before...

The Crash Guard costs $25, and is available in blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, grey, black and white. I think it is a great product!

It has a slight texture to it. Slickwraps are top notch. I've used them on many phones over the years. Installation can be a bit tricky, but they are the best wrap imo.

Does it add any grip to the Rhinoshield Crash Guard?

How's the fit on the crash guard? Any signs of potential future sag or looseness on the side?

No, the fit seems very good and the material is not a stretchy one. It fits quite exactly--I can see how even a Slick Wrap could make it harder to get on--the tolerances are tight.

Does this overlap the front of the screen more than the Apple cases? I have the edge to edge Benks which works fine with the Apple case but just barely. So wondering if it would work with the Rhino or not.

Also is the bumper TPU or silicone? I kind of like the white bumper but would never do TPU in white.

My banks edge to edge works with it, but it is a really close fit.

I think they describe the material as some sort of advanced polymer. It is definitely not like silicone, and doesn't feel like TPU either. It has a relatively hard, smooth, matte feel in the hand.
If you are looking at the white, keep in mind that I think it is white and grey. All the bumpers are two toned.

I thought this looked pretty cool but if I were to try one, it would be the white/gray and unfortunately reviewed on Amazon with the white being stained after 2 weeks. That's one reason why I like the Apple silicone case so well - it's the only non-plastic white case that doesn't stain. I've gotten it really dirty and it cleans up beautifully. I've had a couple of awesome white TPU cases years past but they stained quickly and would never come clean.

On Rhinoshield's website, they post directions on how to clean the crash guard with a mild bleach solution. They show it working wonders with a yellow crash guard...

Thanks for the review: loving the Rhino Shield! wonder why people would opted for Otterbox when there is rhino shield on the market

Well, Rhinoshield is a tiny company, and Otterbox is huge--I'm sure that has something to do with it!
