Good afternoon.
I have an iMac mid 2015 21 "and the HD is getting very slow, that is, to open the mail, safari and even videos on Youtube I have to wait a few minutes and the startup takes almost 7 minutes.
I have been researching and I know that it is possible to install macOS on an external SSD disk and so I can make the iMac quickly have access to all installed apps again and also start up faster. I use my iMac a lot to edit photos and videos and I almost go crazy with the delay in opening Photoshop and other App.

Can I use this "Samsung T7 Touch portable SSD" to install macOS Mojave and make my iMac faster? Or is this disk just for data like saving photos and more?

I look forward to your help.
thanks

You can use it as a boot disk. Ive used a T5 as one before so the T7 should be no different.

I have read the entire tread, looking for good portable smaller unit for back up (time machine)if you will

I appreciate the thorough explanation of the security features but wish there had been as thorough attention to the issue of speed. My interest in the T7 is only because it claims to be twice as fast as the T5. My question is whether myh 2019 iMac can make use of all that speed, or whether, as I read elsewhere, my internal fusion HDD might actually slow down the external drive. My second question is whether there are any drives that can make us of my iMac's Thunderbolt capacity. Does anyone have that information? I'd be most grateful to know.
