Tech21 recently sent me a Classic Shell with Cover for the 6 Plus and I have to say I'm quite impressed with it. I was a little apprehensive about the cover as it has no clasp or strap or magnet to keep it closed, but somehow it is not really a problem. The cover seems to have a natural inclination to stay closed, and doesn't seem to need a clasp. Perhaps it is the fit? Anyway, I didn't find I was bothered by the lack of a clasp.

What's great about the case?
  • Excellent fit--nice and snug around the sides of the iPhone
  • Fancy protective D3O reassures me that my phone is protected. (True or not? Who knows.)
  • Nice grippy texture
  • Buttons are easy to press and cutouts are plenty big

What's questionable?
  • What's with that huge camera cutout?

Basically, it's a great case and I really like it. I think Tech21 makes really good quality cases and this is no exception. I'd love it if they started posting drop protection ratings on their stuff, though!

Thanks!

Another great review, Kristin!

I don't get the huge camera cutouts either? I don't like them at all.

What's baffling, the Tech21 Evo Mesh line has a smaller symmetrical cutout around the lens and it actually looks good.

Thank you!

Yes, I think they finally realized they had a problem with the camera cutout and fixed it on the Evo Mesh--my guess is that all cases designed after that will have the smaller camera cutout. It is baffling that it took them this long to fix the issue though.

One thing I was really happy about with this case was the fit. I tried out and ended up returning a Tech21 Tactical case in November because I couldn't get over the fact that the fit was just a little bit loose on the sides. I even brought it back to Best Buy and tried the other three Tactical cases for the 6+ they had in the store and they all had the same ever-so-slightly loose fit. Well, that is totally absent on this case. It is lovely and snug...although easy to put on and take off like all Tech21 TPU cases. It's a nice case!

I've alway found Tech21 cases to be a little loose. Not loose enough to fall out, just a little play on the sides.

Maybe this one is more snug, because the cover is built into the case?

Could be...it is certainly nice and snug fitting.

The Tech21 cases I had for my iPhone 5 were very snug--no problem. I never saw this looseness issue until I tried them for my 6 Plus. Did you ever try Tech21 cases for the iPhone 5/5s?

My wife has a Tech21 case on her 5s and there's some very minor play on the sides. Not really noticeable.

If you should ever decide to review the CandyShell Grip, now that's a super tight case. You'll need a shoe horn to install it. :D I'm really enjoying the grip on this case. It's fantastic.

Interesting about the Tech21 case for the 5s--maybe they have some variations in their lots, or maybe I am misremembering my old Tech21 iPhone 5 cases.

The Speck CandyShell Grips are great--I also had one for my 5 and my daughter had one for her 5c before she upgraded to the 6. But you are right about the tightness!! A little scary peeling them off the phone!

Great review, quick question. I own Bose headphones, QC25's with the "L" shaped headphone jack port, will it fit into the cut out on this case you feel? Some cases, the cutout is too far out, and the jack wont go all the way it!

Thanks, great review and pics, seriously like this case!

I think they should--my Bose Quiet Comfort 15 headphones fit just fine and they have kind of an angled L shaped plug...
