Looks a lot like what I designed and 3d printed in rubber back in November ;)

I just permanently leave the adapter on an Anker lighting cable.

I could be wrong but I feel like Apple of old would have thought of this when introducing the pencil. As long as we've been losing pen caps one could be forgiven for thinking it would have occurred to Apple.

Something else occurred to me. Pens typically have caps, not pencils. Ive just does things his own way, convention be damned.
I'm sure Apple thought about it at great lengths. Thinking about it and wanting to use that sort of design are two different things however. I'd prefer if it was attached on a nice hinge like the zippo lighter example someone posted but it wasn't to be.

As for pens vs pencils having caps, neither normally have lightening connectors so I don't think it's worth over analysing the name. Some pencils do have caps though, particularly mechanical ones that have an eraser.

What I find really stupid about all this is that Apple failed to figure out a way to store the pencil IN the iPad, in a similar way my Note5 stores its stylus. Nice and clean and elegant. Click in, click out.

Instead, they gave the iPad a dingaling while charging, a cap on the Pencil you can lose, and a Pencil you can misplace.

Like Steve said about Styluses: Yuck!

So you want a permanent hole in the iPad Pro for the Pencil that is an accessory? What about the iPad Pro owners who don't wish to buy the Pencil? They would have an useless hole in their iPad for a Pencil they don't want/need.

The Pencil can somewhat clip magnetically to the iPad if you have the Smart Cover.

too bad this concept was not developed with a version that was made out of a capacitive material on the portion that covers the cap... that way even if you used it wrong, it would still work - to some degree. Hey PencilCozy - if you update your product, send me a free one for the idea ;-)

huh? I think you're missing the point dude. If apple built the pencil slot into the ipad, wouldn't the pencil be included? why make a slot for it and then make customers pay for the item designed for that slot. Makes no sense to me. Its simple, it would be included.

So starting price of the iPad Pro another $100 higher?

Unlike most of the junk after-market I see on MR often, this actually does serve a purpose.

I remember when when Steve Jobs said:
"Who wants a stylus?"
Steve also complained about the fact that you have to worry to not lose it.
Now, we have two worries:

- losing the stylus
- losing the cap

All for the "fair" price of 99$

Sorta dense thinking.
That was 2007, 9 years ago.

And since you seem to remember some things about SJ you should also remember he's flipped the script a couple of times in the past.

Here's one example:

"Jobs famously said he would only let Windows customers sync their iPods with their PCs "over my dead body." He did ultimately let Windows users sync their iPods -- a move that's credited with making the iPod a phenomenon."

SJ said what he needed to get his point across and sell his product.

And the"stylus" he was referring to was dumb piece of plastic being used on a 3.5 inch screen as a primary input method as shown in the video from 2007.

The Apple pencil is not a dumb piece of plastic and is not the primary input method.

i come here a lot to look for this kind of quote-unquote 'junk'.. MR is one of the better site as far as recommendations go. feels like someone working there just likes a product and speaks up on it (most of the time). even if it's more like a freebie they got in the mail that the company HOPES will be reviewed, they hack out the cons along with the pros.

$8? Inexpensive? It's a tiny piece of rubber! I feel like it's the kind of product that would be sold at a dollar store... Like the idea, but I wouldn't pay over $2 for that.

You are comparing the price of a new product that needs to recap its tooling and start-up costs over a limited volume market, with the prices of overstocks that have made it to the bargain bin.

Whats with the bright turquoise/green? The clear and white are good ideas since they actually match the pencils colors (clear matches anything).

Bought one (white) and received it today. Works and looks as advertised. I'll let you know if I find it getting in the way it picks up grime and lint. I am paranoid about losing my Pencil cap though. Haven't come close, nor has it fallen off. But at least I'll worry less.

Hmm, if only there was a way to cover a hole when not in use!

Apple's design decisions are freely chosen, not forced.

The point is, they probably could have provided the iPad Pro with an internal and elegant solution for storing (and charging) the Stylus, (while simultaneously addressing Steve's philosophy of not losing them), given that the iPad Pro and the Pencil are somewhat intertwined in Apple's marketing and product strategy.

I admit, it is not a necessary thing (what really is necessary though?), but it would have been nice.

I bought Cozy's combo pack for the Pencil (pencil cap and lightning adapter) from them and am very happy with it. For 9.99 good bargain for 2. Ship was only .99. Promptly shipped and seems like a decent company to buy from. Like that they ship first class USPS to keep costs to consumer down. Solves a potential problem that can cost a lot more for replacements if you can even get them. Guess it depends on your risk/value assessment. I do think having a cap on your Pencil given the otherwise exposed lightning connector components is probably the most important of the two.
