Just got my new MacBook Pro M1 - super pumped about it! Anyway, I was looking at a new monitor for home office use. The Dell S2722QC seems to be a good "budget" pick. rtings.com rated it fairly well.

Does anyone have any experience with this model? How does it work with your Mac?

I have S2722QC and recently compared it with U2723QE. I would say S2722QC is very compelling at its price, but not as good as U2723QE.

(Disclaimer: I don't do any color related work and don't have any fancy equipment to measure the quality more scientifically. All the observations below are done with my naked eyes)

1. Color: out of the box, S2722QC has a bit of pink hue compared with U2723QE. And overall colors are more saturated than U2723QE, which somehow makes it more enjoyable to watch videos. I manage to make colors look almost exactly the same to my eye by adjusting the RGB combination. (97% R + 100 G + 97% B)

2. Brightness: U2723QE is more bright. S2722QC at 75% looks similar in brightness to U2723QE at 65~70%. This is consistent to their specs.

3. View angle: This is my biggest complaint. S2722QC turns yellowish and less bright significantly when viewed from a horizontal angle, while U2723QE maintains its colors and brightness at the same angle.

4. Contrast ratio: On paper, U2723QE doubles contrast ratio thanks to IPS Black technology. But it's hard to notice it when using it under normal circumstances. I can only tell the difference in a dark room while both monitors displaying black background: S2722QC shows a bit of dark blue blended in black, while U2723QE shows purer black. But again, I can't tell the difference if the image has any other color than black. I would say S2722QC is also pretty good.

5. Both have pretty bad IPS glow (only visible in dark rooms for dark scenes)

6. Other: S2722QC has 65w charging and fewer ports. U2723QE's 90w charging is the primary reason I went for it.

I don't have M1 mac. But both works well with a 2019 intel macbook pro 15 and a 2019 Mac Pro tower.

Hello, I'd like to know your opinion on both models.
I mainly work with documents, not graphics-related work. But since I mostly use Macs, DCI-P3 feels like a must.
For my purposes, would it be better to pay more and choose the U2723QE instead of the S2722QC?

U2723QE is objectively better than S2722QC. But for most people, I don't think it is worth double the price tag, especially if you mainly work with documents. I think for graphics / color related work, gaming or playing videos, U2723QE's higher contrast ratio, more color coverage, and better HDR might be more appealing.

I'm not sure why you think DCI-P3 is a must for Mac users. From my very limited understanding of color space coverage, most web contents, movies and games are in still sRGB color space. DCI-P3 might be a must if you edit videos.

I think for most people (me included), 90w charging might be the biggest reason to go with U2723QE.

What version/revision did you have? When was it manufactured?

The one I had was manufactured in Nov 2021 A00. But I sent it back for replacement because they sent me a re-sealed unit with USB C to C missing from the package.

Sorry to hear about that … Are you getting another S2722QC? Or did you opt for something else?

Hi all,

Am hoping someone here will know.

I am using an iMac (with thunderbolt 2 port) and am wanting to extend the screen space (yes, ran out of screen space even with a proper iMac!), and not just mirroring from a macbook. Has anyone successfully extended this with the Dell S2722QC monitor, and if there were any issues?

Thanks.

Not sure if you got this monitor as well or not, but I just received this week. It was bit of a search for a monitor and in the end I trusted the rtings.com advice and went for this one instead of the U2723QE or even considering the Apple Display. Because of the price is lower and I don't think I need that colour gamut.

I found out that I just needed a 'big' screen for my MacBook Pro 16 M1 Pro. The 4K screen looks great and sharp. Although I have seen the Apple display, which is clearly nicer & better, but it is also more expensive. After that release all 4K monitors seems like second class, which I don't agree anymore after receiving this screen.

I did also consider the P27xx-something (which I can't find on the dell site anymore), which had a better 'black IPS' panel and USB-C instead of A ports + ethernet. All nice, but I thought I might be able to connect the USB-C hub into the monitor, no luck. So I have 2 USB-C cables into my MBP, the monitor + hub. What's really great is the stand, it can swivel and tilt etc, but it doesn't have a click when going back to horizontal, so you need to eyeball it to make it horizontal again.

My MacBook 16" remains open and as a secondary screen for the Touch ID and sometimes the track pad. Also the sound comes from there. (Yes, one can replace all that with other stuff... but that is more stuff and funds)

Also, this monitor has firmware update + program to control the monitor only via Windows. So no Mac variant. This software can be installed on Windows Parallel, but wouldn't recognise the monitor. Not sure if the firmware ever needs to be updated.

All in all a good panel/monitor. No problems for me (so far).

edit: found a monitor control app for this Dell: https://github.com/MonitorControl/MonitorControl

I received this monitor (S2722QC) a few days ago for my new Mac Studio M1 Max.

I agree it's a great monitor (especially for its price).

However, I had no luck connecting it via the USB-C cable - there was no signal at all. I had to buy an HDMI cable, which worked.

I suspect that's why the MonitorControl utility doesn't work for me (their docs mention it requires a USB-C or DisplayPort connection).

For me the workaround was to use the QuickShade app: QuickShade on the Mac App Store (apple.com)

There's one minor annoyance: when the monitor turns off, windows in some apps get resized to a smaller size (I guess to the monitor's default resolution? I'm running it at 2560x1440). After waking up, the windows resize back to their original size.

Strange. Did you try to setup the input source on USB-C? (see screenshot)

Also, the monitor control app (using usb-c) have quite a lot of options. Let me know if the usb-c works now.

Short answer:
USB-C connection to Mac Studio suddenly started working automatically (and so did MonitorControl, as expected). Ha.

Long answer:
When I got the monitor 2 weeks ago, USB-C didn't work no matter what I tried including monitor's own controls you mentioned. So I bought HDMI cable.

Now, before replying to you I decided to also try to connect this monitor to my MacBook Pro M1, just to have all the answers. Plus I knew by now that MBP and Mac Studio can require a different connection type to the same monitor.

Connecting the monitor to MBP via USB-C worked automatically right away. After this, just in case, I connected the USB-C cable to Mac Studio. This time it also worked right away, automatically.

Go figure. Maybe connecting the monitor to MBP somehow reset something whatever that prevented the USB-C connection to Mac Studio from working.

Now MonitorControl also works (it's indeed a great utility, I used it previously with an LG monitor).

Well, your answer did trigger a chain of events that made USB-C connection work, miraculously.

How nice! Really make me curious what was the issue beforehand. It's not uncommon that people encounter issues with usb-c monitors and the Mac not showing anything (according to google). I was worried about flicker issues, which some have encountered, I am happy my combination of MacBook and this dell doesn't produce any of that.

One of the cons is that we can't upgrade the display's firmware if there is any, one needs a windows for that (which M1 parallels can't support, so need an intel system). But hopefully there is nothing major to be upgraded.

I have an M1 MBP and would like to connect 2 monitors. What is the best way to do this using the Dell S2722QC?

Also bought this monitor and enjoying it for the most part. I was wondering if you guys did any colour calibration or tweaking to match more closely to your Mac? I find its a little contrasty-er than my MBP M1 and some pixellation on some webpages with text - often news sites or Google Docs.

Short of that, quite happy for the pricepoint!

I’m running 2 monitors on my new S2722QC monitors. The problem is that the included USB-C cable isn’t long enough for both monitors to connect to my M1 MBP. And it doesn’t seem to recognize Apple cables.

I need a 6’ cable. Does any know of a replacement cable that works?

Hello guys, what's the best way to clean the Dell S2722QC with the anti-glare film on it?
