Some are very biased, Forbes is another one that seems to dislike Apple. I tend to read CNET, iMore and a few others along with watching the unboxing’s from iJustine :)

I have noticed that about Forbes as well. They seem to go out of their way to knock Apple and Apple products.

iMore is probably one of the most biased sites out there IMO. I mean I gets that it's Apple centric but yeah I can't take them serious, especially Rene Ritchie. iJustine is cool tho. I also like Techno Buffalo is cool. Shout out to my dude Jon Rettinger. Jonathan Morrison is also cool. Dude's fair and will praise apple when warranted but he also isn't afraid to call them out on their bs

Yea definitely there are sites that are biased for and against Apple, I tend to read the iMore reviews and see if it matches with the others while also filtering out the biased side. iJustine admits that she is an Apple fan girl, I like her videos and the unboxing’s she does.

The only review that should matter, is your own.

People off the net don't pay my bill. As such, I really don't care if they like the phone or not.

But is that really the point of reviews? I mean it's not how I use them -- to be told what to buy and not to buy. As experienced with gadgets as I am I often find good reviewers can find both hidden gems and oddities alike better than me, or at least alert me to them before I buy. Too me that is a good review of a product, not just a regurgitation of the spec sheet into prose.

That's for the media (and not YouTubers like MKBHD or TheVerge), but two days to test and review isn't enough time.

YouTubers will be releasing their reviews from tomorrow I think.

The only YouTube reviewer I like is Michael Fisher aka Mr. Mobile formerly Captain2Phones.

After that, I check for...

Dave Lee (calming voice)
JerryRigEverything
PhoneBuff's speed test
SuperSaf/Krystal Key photo comparisons
Sometimes TechRadar battery tests after checking GSM Arena, PhoneArena, Tom's Guide, Anandtech, and Ars Technica.

I can watch The Verge on mute because it has the best cinematography since watching Josh Topolsky's Galaxy Nexus review back in 2011. But their reviewers are mediocre. Never cared for them.

Michael Fisher is worth listening to because he doesn't try to sound like a homer and he is witty and humble. His voice-over and theater acting experience helps. I do like MKBHD but he still is just a kid. Born 1992, he was 15 when iPhone 2G was released and said he never held one until he saw iJustine in the keynote.

I'm 36 and my peers are like Jon Rettinger (36), Michael Fisher (34), and iJustine (33). Jonathan Morrison, Austin Evans, Krystal Key, and Marques Brownlee are still kids to me. Won't understand the Walkman or any funny 80's references. Even Dagogo who does Coldfusion is only 27.

Michael Fisher and me share the same taste. Star Wars and Star Trek (although I'm not that hardcore as a Trekker), uses two phones daily, appreciates webOS, is probably using an LG V30 and Pixel 2 XL now as his daily drivers. Uses MacBook Pro (Retina, 2015) for his Final Cut Pro. Sounds cool to me. Doesn't follow trends. Sets his own.

DetroitBorg on YouTube is excellent too; no bias at all and just a straight run through on whatever product he’s reviewing.

Reviews don't influence me one way or the other after my initial purchase of a device. I do watch read/Watch the reviews for points that different reviewers will discuss that I may not of noticed before. So they all have different viewpoints that indicate something maybe I didn't know about the iPhone that might be interesting or helpful.

For those who are waiting

Can't trust those media reviews. They are forced to give positive reviews or else they won't get review samples next year. If they don't get review samples, they are forced to wait for stock to buy in stores and by the time their review is ready, it will be January.

The Verge hate Apple.

iVerge hates Apple? Lol, Apple fans trying to not look like fans.

I think the major knock is that it’s not a giant leap over the current versions of the watch outside of LTE.

I still have a series 0 becuase there hasn’t been a compelling reason to upgrade.

Back on topic, I’m sure the reviews will be spectacular...specifically the screen and camera

Seriously? I went from a S0 to S3 and the difference is staggering.

Little too late for reviews. We've already spent a fortune on iPhone X.

If CNET doesn't release a gushing review of the iPhone X I'd be surprised. The honest reviews only come out after a few weeks when people have the devices by the millions and issues are uncovered. Not saying there *will* be major issues, but if there are that seems to be the timeframe.

No one here is seriously looking for reviews to make purchase decisions. It's just gadget porn to tide us over until the hardware physically arrives (almost said "is in our hands").

If I were looking to reviews as actual consumer research, PC Mag and GottaBeMobile are the only sites that don't treat video reviews as show biz. Unboxings, pans and tracking shots on inanimate objects, cloyingly perky personalities, bad music intros—just, no.

Dont really care about reviews.. I already know its going to be a crazy fast phone, great cameras and display.. All i want to know is about real world usage battery life. Anywhere within 8 Plus range is pass for me.

I'm not bothered about reviews either regards my decision making. I have preordered an iPhone X and I intend to go ahead with it and keep it irrespective of how the reviews are. That said I am looking forward to the reviews to see what others thoughts are on it and to get an advanced idea of how to use the new functionality.

Some random thoughts on reviewers or random YouTubers...

Best phone reviewer in the early days (pre-Michael Fisher on PocketNow) was Noah Kravitz on PhoneDog before he went through that lawsuit. Dude fell off the map since.

The Verge has mediocre reviewers once Josh T stopped doing them but changed the game with their cinematography. Before, dudes would just unbox it and show the device off a table. Others ended up copying The Verge's style.

Jon Rettinger is a nice guy but I simply don't understand some of his videos. A few months ago, he was praising Pixel XL. Now he is negative with Pixel 2 XL? Huh? Jon4Lakers needs some charisma too.

I want to see Karl Conrad and Jonathan Morrison arm wrestle. Karl looks like he would be a son of Tony Robbins. He knows how to give a big smile though.

Jonathan is that hot YouTuber guy with many female subscribers but photo bombs Krystal Key videos and looks like Rookie of the Year, Thomas Ian Nicholas. I just saw an American Pie marathon on IFC last week. No longer will his p***s be flaccid and unused!

I used to rag on JM's buddy, Austin Evans, but didn't realize Austin's condo got burned down a few years ago and lost alot of stuff.

Erica Griffin is about 27-28 with an operatic voice but like DetroitBorg, those videos are a bit too long. Should be 10-12 minutes, tops. Erica married such a dork.

I bet first reviews come from like Time Magazine or iJustine. Biased-iPhone users first to say all the positive.

I pretty much check all the YouTubers even Ash from C4ETech because he used to review Xiaomi phones that nobody else did or couldn't understand because of their thick Indian accent or don't understand Mandarin or Cantonese.

I don't really like Unbox Therapy or Flossy Carter. I avoid them. SoldierKnowsBest and UrAvgConsumer are ok but not my favs.

I stopped reading Anandtech reviews once the founder moved to work for Apple. I like how detailed and technical it is but would rather just watch a review than read it.

Avoid YouTube comments and Engadget. That's a feeding ground for Apple haters. Actually every site is filled with them including some here.

I admit sipping on that Apple haterade for years and you will find comments from me making fun of fanbases from all sides but I like Apple "hardware" and after service, so I decided to start liking them again.

Josh Vergara is also one my favs but he does Android Authority and doesn't really do iPhone reviews. Lanh Nguyen is too boring and too young but I guess they make a fun dynamic duo together.

Hate PhoneArena since John V. So biased. Only check on them for some news.

Nick Ackerman is kinda underrated although his "Let's Goooo" can get annoying.

MobileTechReviews puts me to sleep.

Krystal Key is a cute Latina babe. But I laugh at all the comments trying to hit on her. Lonely! That pretty much happens to all female reviewers.

I used to think iJustine was annoying af but I think she is a nice person and like her passion with Apple and Nintendo.

My daily tech news to read is GSM Arena and nothing else.

I swear Max Lee looks like one of my Korean friends.

Dave Lee is cool. Father of two. Reminds me of one of my good college buddies. Doesn't follow trends either. Like his laptop reviews.

I don't mind Jaime Rivera and Juan Carlos Bagnell. Actually JCB is one of my favs. Megapickles! Call me High-Me Lannister! ;)

EverythingApplePro hyped up the X leading up to the announcement. He also tries to show off his body just to check on the iPhone's water-resistance. Has peacocks and is such a peacock.

SSSniperWolf is a babe. But she got some work done on her face like Megan Fox.

PhoneBuff and MKBHD are Android guys like me. David from PB makes the best speed and very good drop tests but his Nexus history was one of the best I had ever seen.

If I missed anyone, it's because I didn't find them memorable.

Best from 2009-2011: Noah Kravitz
Best since 2013: Michael Fisher

Lately, I just watch Game of Thrones or trailer REACTION videos. Tyrone Magnus and StruggleNation rules. Kevin Smith doesn't do them but always love his jokes and enthusiasm after he watches them.

Thanks for sharing. Benjamin Geskin on Twitter has had some interesting finds recently, including iPhone X unboxing.

I’m surprised it’ll be such a short window for reviewers with the iPhone X.

I'm excited for the reviews, but after reading the reviews for Apple Watch S3 when they came out, I don't really trust them anymore. The Verge gave the watch a paltry 5/10 review, and meanwhile it's one of the best products I've ever owned and works flawlessly for me - LTE included.

The verge has gotten bad. Review in general should be objective but I find it becomes challenging for them to review in such a manner.

Recently the iPhone 8 and Pixel 2 reviews I found interesting. IPhone 8 got 8.0, Pixel 2 got 8.5. And the bullet points were kind of ridiculous.

They will only have two full days to test? Hmm
Probably all they need. Chip, rear camera, speaker, wireless charging have already been reviewed with the 8. Really they need to update Face ID, battery, the OLED, and the front camera. Two days should be enough.

I think it depends how you use it. I use it strictly for notifications

I use it mostly for notifications too. Though I do use it for Siri as well.

Just in terms of notifications it’s miles faster. The S3 is miles more consistent in this regard, too.

I went from the original, to Series 2, to Series 3. Original to 2 was a significant difference in speed, 2 to 3 was also a nice speed increase but not as drastic. I upgraded each time as I was able to sell the previous watch for a decent price and new features were things that I was hoping for (GPS and LTE).

Either way though - no need to upgrade if you’re happy with the current model. But that brings up the interesting point about reviews. So many of them (not just watch, but even phones) tend to base so much of the review around comparing it to the previous year’s model. That’s helpful to an extent, but they almost push that as the sole reason for the review. So many iPhone 8 reviews had the theme of “it’s not worth upgrading from iPhone 7”. I mean, what about everyone who isn’t on an iPhone 7? Or how about a generally more objective review of the phone as a device itself compared to others being released right now?
