I have four Ipod docks in the house, not to mention two sets of travel speakers and the IPhone does not work on any of them. Just another reason to still need the old Ipods. I guess until Steve figures this out, I will not be able to truly enjoy the revolution.

I have several docks as well. I have not had any trouble whatsoever using my iPhone with existing docks. I also have had no issues using either my car's iPod dock connection or a set of portable iPod speakers.

Could you post specifically what products you have so maybe we all could help you, and so others with those products can be aware of the problems?

When I was at an Apple store this past weekend, I saw a package that contained 5 different dock adapters for the iPhone. I assume they are to be used for all the different ipod docks and accessories.

My JBL docks, I believe they are called Time Machines they are the Alarm clock versions. I love them, great sound and a bright clock on them auto dimmer ect. Every time I dock the Iphone a message pops up on the screen and states this accessory is not designed to work with the Iphone. I did not get a message on the Logitech travel speakers, but the sound only comes out of the Iphone speakers, not the actual travel speakers.

Am I doing something wrong. I will be the first to admit I am an idiot if someone can help me out here.

My iPhone works with my Apple Hi-Fi, my Altec-Lansing travel speakers and my old iPod airline/auto charger. Don't know about my old iPod docks as I don't need to use 'em.

I have the iHome dock at work. My iPhone pops up a message that says the dock is not compatible and I need to turn on airplane mode to avoid noise through the speakers.

In airplane mode it works fine, otherwise I get tons of static and noise :(.

I guess not all docks are built equal. I'll have to get another one if I every wanna dock my phone at play music.

It's a phone with iPod features, not the other way about so it's not as if we can expect it to operate exactly the same with the same compatability. That said, it's a bit weird for it not to even output the sound on some machines.

They updated some things about how the dock connector works with the iPhone (and likely the iPod 6G). There seems to be actual serial data meant to travel across it so the iPhone can identify the device connected to it. I plug it into a universal dock, go to Settings>General>About, and at the bottom it displays: "Universal Dock: 0.0.0". Very 'interesting'.

If that's true, and Apple has updated the dock connector I really, really hope they added digital out to the thing. As I understand it, the 5G iPod connector outputs audio in analog L & R which sucks because that means the iPod is doing the conversion and not my Onkyo reciever or Pioneer head unit which both have a lot better D/A convertors.
