Think i am going to redirect the url with php seems much less work just to do some conditional redirecting if php finds ?token

Try removing the slash in front of the ?. I'm looking at this page, which deals with query strings. It's doing something similar, but also has an alternative using the QUERY_STRING as part of the rule. You can modify the rule earlier to see if you can get that method to work. I've only used it a touch.

I'll look into rewritting with htaccess more in the future, i am not geting paid much for this so a php rewrite will do.
