I have no stutter no that trailer either

Seeing as we have the same machines... I'm wondering why my machine stutters playing this clip and yours does not. This is under both video cards. I know that the bitrate of the Despereaux trailer is much higher... but why would it play fine on your machine and stutter on mine?

Needless to say... not too happy anymore. I'm going to try to open a channel of communication with Apple on this one.

If you want, try:

Trailer 1, 1080p (stutters for me on 2 machines, including both MBP video cards)

Another one I tried appeared to stutter as well, but it does not appear to now (The International 1080p). I'm actually beginning to suspect that the Desperaux trailer I downloaded was somehow corrupted. Perhaps we happened upon bad transfers?

To those who think that QT is not GPU accelerated: there is some evidence that suggests that it is. CPU utilization rates are reported lower on these machines than previous generation, by a factor of 2. Also, the new unibody machines shipped with a QT version that was different from earlier editions, and they are still ahead version-wise, which may reflect the differences.

I think I have good news for you. This clip stutters and locks up QuickTime on my PC desktop running Windows. This desktop is a quad core 2.66ghz machine with 8gb of RAM and a GTX 260 with 896mb of video RAM (a monster of a card). It always begins to stutter at the point where the coin rolls off the table and where it locks up changes each time. This leads me to believe that it has nothing to do with hardware and everything to do with QuickTime having trouble streaming this particular movie.

I wonder if you two are running different versions of QuickTime? I think this might be a software issue.

Thats the same place it starts with me.
