Hi guys,

My battery has been draining at a ridiculous spead since updating my iphone. I can almost watch the battery percentage go down when using apps like Facebook.

Battery was fine and really good before the update. I've read various things about changing settings etc, but surely this is a problem with the IOS software?

Does anyone know if this is well known and a fix is being worked on?

Thanks!

Yes, MacDawg, just noticed that update, thanks. I'll see if it improves.

Do not just update. Make sure to try a complete restore and set up as new using iTunes.

That fixed my battery issues when my 5S’s battery went to hell after updating from iOS 10.

Ok, so the new update has had zero effect on the battery drain.

My battery has never really taken a bashing. When I woke up it was around 40%. I would then charge it fully at my desk and then it would last for the rest of the day and night until the next morning with about 40% left. After the update it instantly went to draining entirely within a few hours. You can see the percentage ticking down when using some apps.

:(

Thanks for posting. I wanted to see a confirmation that my 6s should stay on iOS 10.3.3.

The battery could be faulty or worn out?

I gave my Dad my old 6s when I upgraded to the 8 Plus. We put a new battery in it and the battery life is brilliant.

With the Facebook app...switch off auto-play videos as it keeps processes running in the background and eats battery life.

Definitely not in my case: Apple replaced the battery on my 6s under AppleCare. I also tried a clean install of iOS 11 with setting up the phone as new. Made absolutely no difference.

It was an obvious incompatibility between my 6s and the early versions of iOS 11. So far I have no reasons to believe that 11.2.5 solves the problem.

Thanks for the comments.

I have not tried a complete factory restore yet. I was hoping to not have to carry out such drastic action simply because I upgraded my phone to the latest operating system.

100% due to the upgrade. Battery was excellent beforehand and it was instantly terrible after the upgrade.

I see that the issue is a bit hit and miss on the other topics where people are having this issue. I will wait a few more days to see if it is taking a silly amount of time to index, but if not any better I'll restore.

My faith in upgrades on all of my Mac products is slowly dwindling. Gone are the days of not worrying about whether an software update will adversely affect my Mac or my other Apple devices. Seems like Apple are starting to take a leaf out of Adobe's book.

Completely agree. It's really a bunch of crap that Apple doesn't allow iOS downgrades the same way you can with a MacBook.

My 6s is on 10.3.3 and I won't risk degrading its performance with iOS 11 if there's no way to roll it back if needed.

I had a huge battery drain while using safari in 11.2.1.
It was do to using 2 adblockers at the same time, which was not an issue in the past. Removed one and battery drain stopped.

Unfortunately, it my case battery drain was not restricted to Safari. For example, when using Apple Maps for directions, the battery was dropping 1% per minute. Downgraded to iOS 10.3.3 and battery drain stopped.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 6S. I would love to be able to downgrade back to iOS 10.

I called the Apple Store yesterday to ask how long the wait was for walk-in support. I was told 80% of walk-ins were coming in for battery issues. What a fiasco!

It has nothing to do with iOS itself. It’s your settings that are corrupt causing the battery drain. Otherwise there would be millions of posts around the web describing your same experience. And that is not the case. Restore your phone as new, all your troubles will go away. Your device has a corrupted install of iOS. Simple as that.

You have absolutely no reason to lose faith and you seem to be overreacting. And if you do, that’s on you and not what Apple has done. It’s software. Software is not perfect. Things get corrupt. Whether it be Apple or any other company; it’s all the same.

Posts like that made me waste so much time with zero results in the end.

1. Clean install - check
2. Setup as new - check
3. Replace the battery - check
4. Battery drain still there.
5. Downgrade to iOS 10.3.3 - problem solved.

It's likely that most of those are in relation to battery replacement now that Apple is offering a program for that this year, and aren't really related to iOS 11 in particular.

I also restored as new, and didn't add back any 3rd party apps. While the battery drain is marginally better, it is still draining far too fast. I have no choice but to try a battery replacement. Fingers crossed.

I’m sorry but no. Explain to me why the 300,000,000 people on iOS 11 don’t experience the same issue then. It has nothing to do with iOS 11 and it’s your particular settings on your device or your device’s hardware.

During My visits to Genius Bars, one of the geniuses went over the settings on my phone. He turned off a bunch of services, which had precisely zero effect on battery drain. Their next step was to replace my battery, which did not help either. Before that I tried several times erasing the phone and setting it up as new. I lost my backups and quite a few hours of my life. Nothing helped. After that I downgraded to iOS 10, and now it works fine. I have all location services on as well as background app refresh for the key apps. I'm getting 7 hours of usage, while on iOS 11 my phone would last slightly more than 4.

It seems to me that I went through every possible troubleshooting step, but if I missed something, please let me know. My colleague who has the same problems with his 6s and missed the opportunity to downgrade would be very grateful if you have a solution for him.

I don't know where from you pulled the number of 300 million happy users for iOS 11, but I see numerous complaints about battery drain for older iPhones (7 and 6s). Not every phone has the problem, probably due to small hardware variations, but there are plenty of affected units.

It has nothing to do with iOS itself.

So I have a perfectly working phone with excellent battery life. I update the OS and the battery instantly becomes terrible. I'm sorry, but it has everything to do with the OS update as it was that action which caused the problem.

Regardelsss of whether it is caused by what you state there are many people who are having problems with excessive battery drain after updating to IOS 11 and as described above only a back-date to a previous version of the OS is rectifying the issue.

Emiljabo & msvadi you're not alone, there's a lot of people experiencing the same problems, including me. There are reports all over this forum, the Apple Discussions group, and many other forums. And it's not unique to the 6S either, it's happening with the 5S as well.

Speaking out should not be criticized, we need some resolution on this matter.

You didn't say but did you go directly from iOS 10.3.3 to 11.2.2 ? Your thread title seems to indicate an issue with 11.2.2 but the posts here seem to be about iOS 11 in general not that particular update. I was not on 11.2.2 long enough to judge whether it was bad or not so curious.
