Ok thanks - it should go fine - at least one of the (he newer one) will boot or so it seems.

Have you got access to an external hard drive ?

Cheers, lol I'm hoping both work otherwise I'm screwed really. I only have a 20gb ipod to hand and a spare 80gb macbook hard drive. why?

Sorry for the delay in replying - time differences - I am in the UK.

Just in case you have to copy data - in case one does not boot - although I think it will all go fine.

Yeah dont worry about it I'm UK too I was just bored lol. Yeah it all went fine, i'm typing off the SR one now. Two strange things have happened though.

1) The pre-SR macbook takes a lot longer to boot with my bro's HDD in than it did with mine, any ideas.

2) My copy of Matlab will not work because it says the machine ID is different, which of course it is. I'm hoping I can rectify this but since mathworks severly limit their software installs I can see myself having to make a few calls.

Apart from that a job well done.

Thanks for the help people :)

A few more teething problems to note.

These problems are only on then SR macbook with my 250gb HDD installed:

1) bootcamp is no longer available at startup even tho Fusion recognises its there.

2)The isight camera is constantly on (well green lit) but when I try to take a pic using photobooth i get a black screen.

I can see myself perhaps having to do a fresh install but would like to avoid it if anyone has any ideas on how to solve these minor glitches.

1. odd - obviously not a Bootcamp partition - is it still showing up as a windows disc in finder ? VM will have created its own take on the windows installation and will have saved that - I think you can delete the bootcamp installation and it would still work.

2. also odd - but you are not alone - see this thread

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/453183/

although I think that I read somewhere that someone had found out what the problem was - and it was something strange.

The isight problem seems to have corrected itself after a few boot ups, have no clue why but I ain't complaining.

The bootcamp partition is strange as I have no option at start up when pressing alt and the windows partition does not appear in the finder. However the mac does see it in bootcamp manager and in disk utiltiy and like I mentioned VM fusion also can still see the partition.

I think the best and safest method to remedy this would be a clean install when I have time.

apparently zapping the pram helps with the iSight (but thereagain a couple of re-boots seems to work too !!)

After installing 4gb of ram the isight problem came back, don't know whether by coincidence or not but seems weird that the ram would do this.

no - installing RAM seems to be the easiest way of creating the iSight problem !

Zap the PRAM and a few restarts and it should be ok again
