Hi Guys,

I’m having trouble with my second-generation AirPods Pro. Initially, one of the buds wasn’t getting detected. After resetting the AirPods Pro, now the problem bud isn’t charging. It shows stuck at 1% charge and won’t charge further. I’ve tried some online tips like resetting the AirPods Pro and cleaning the buds itself, none of it has helped. What do I do?

Clean the contact in the case for the right side. I have had this same issue with both my AP2 and AP4's

These cheap AirPods cleaning kits are a good investment. The long foam tip is for reaching down in the case to clean the contact in the case. IMG_4611.jpeg

I cleaned the base of right side of the case with cotton buds and also had some isopropyl alcohol sprinkled on a microfibre cloth and then tried to clean the base of the right side in the case, it has not helped. The Result is the same.

The tool on the right is good for scrapping the contact in the case, maybe the contact is depressed so it doesn't make sufficient contact. Try putting pressure on the right AirPods with the case open and see it shows charging on your iPhone battery display, I have read that some people have needed to put a piece of pressure tape in the top of the case so as to push the AirPods down on the contact.

Honestly I don't like this design at all, I have had charging issues with my two models. I also own Beats Fit Pro and the charging case in my opinion is a much better design

If it’s still stuck at 1%, the battery may have failed and Apple service is likely the fix.
Do you mean the battery of the Ear Bud ? And when you say Fix, do you mean like a replacement? because AirPods are not repairable they just get replaced ? right ? If Under Warranty. Mine is out of warranty so I guess some Financial Hit coming...

If the easy-to-implement methods have all been tried with little effect, there's no choice but to give it a minor adjustment, which might still offer a glimmer of hope; otherwise, it will have to be abandoned.

What Minor adjustment are you talking about ?

I believe he is referring to using a tool like in my earlier post and try prying the right case contact slightly up. However that said, if you push down on the right AirPod and it still isn't charging past 1% then it appears that the battery in the AirPods is shot.

Surprisingly, today, the right AirPod ear bud, which was not getting charged and was stuck at 1% charging suddenly showed 80% charge which means it is charging all of a sudden. I don't know what happened. I have not done anything out of the box nor have I done anything additional special. Does it still mean that there is still this looming threat on if it will continue this way or not, should I get it checked in the Apple Store?

I still think you have a battery issue in the AirPod since it only reached 80%, that isn't a good thing as if it charging correctly it should have reached 100%.

It's obviously a battery issue, possibly due to aging.

There is no point in having anything checked because as you yourself correctly stated Apple only replaces AirPods and outside of warranty that’s not worth it as the replacement AirPod costs 100 bucks and doesn’t even come with the 1 year warranty. Since it’s charging now I’d just avoid draining it to beyond the 10% low battery warning sound to stress the battery less. You can also for 50 bucks do a battery replacement with Apple which gives you good as new AirPods. If your pair is a 3 year old Lightning model it really couldn’t hurt to get replacements through this service as it will likely extend your AirPods life for another 3 years for relatively little money. It’s like a new pair except you’d keep the Lightning case (but it charges wirelessly so you can avoid using a Lightning cable).

It’s not too unusual to have these contact issues a few years down the road, cleaning the contacts should help and unless the problem occurs more frequently I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

I had this problem with one of my airpods. The metal contact at the base of the stem was loose and then fell off. Nothing you can do if that happens.
