When I right click to a file, it gives me all the available options to open it.
But there are so many!

Even programs that I had in the past. 4 vlc apps, 3 stuffit, 2 squeeze etc.
Chaos.

How can I choose what is displayed when I right click? How can I clean all the bad stuff?

Rebuilding LaunchServices should help you get rid of uninstalled apps and duplicate listings. Here is the Terminal method for doing so, or you can use a maintenance app like MainMenu to do it with just a couple of clicks.

ive noticed that ive had to do this all this time after i disconnect my cloned external drive. everytime i disconnect it two of every app shows up in the open with menu. rebuild launch services.... fixes it. a while later after unplugging the drive comes back again. is there a real fix?

I used mainmenu.
I did the rebuild services function but this does not cleared the right click menus.
Should I do something else?
