Looking to try apple music with the family, currently we all have our own iCloud account and share an iTunes store account with iTunes match. Looking to switch to family share and try the apple music family plan. Appreciate any advice on the following steps I believe are the right steps to do this (just a note, I am ok stopping iTunes match even though the behavior is not identical without it, we will just keep a backup of all purchased music and will restore it if this doesn't work out):
Read some of these steps on other threads but couldn't find a thread that answered everything:
- Make a full backup of our entire music library.
- Have each family member download the music they want in their library from iTunes match (so it is in the library when they setup apple music).
- Have everyone change their iTunes store account to match their iCloud account (except for me since that is already the case).
- I will turn on family share from my account and invite the family members, everyone will join the family share and do what they need to get their apps working again (if there are any issues).
- Stop/cancel iTunes match.
- Everyone should now have their own independent music library based on the music they downloaded from iTunes match. At this point only I would have access to iTunes match since we are not sharing an iTunes store account anymore. Do they need to turn on iCloud music library or anything else at this point?
- Activate apple music family plan trial with me and rest of the family.
- Each family member configures their apple music (choose artists and genre's they like, have apple music scan their library to upload music not available in the streaming service...)
- Done. At this point each family member should have their own apple music library which includes the music from their individual 'my music' library.
Does this look right? Has anyone done this successfully? See a lot of threads about syncing issues, and sharing issues, not sure if apple music is stable yet so may need to wait, but want to confirm the right approach.
